It's ever so slightly thicker than the stock felt that lines the driver. If you can find that, then you're good.

Boy do I have some modding in store for myself! Let's see....

flat copper cable - check

Audeze Microsuede pads - check

Adhesive felt - check

Lol that's a good bit of work, but I'm not going to start until it all arrives.

Haha, didn't I say you were going to eventually wind up pretty close to my config? Except mine has even more damping in front, and even more open back.

Actually thinking about putting more dampening in the front. The more open grills will come later.

I just need to try out those vegan pads now...

Ohh can you please explain the reasoning of the dampening material from front to back. Please ?

You basically want to minimize all the reflections that head towards the ear.

The earside damping on the magnet plate is to reduce those reflections that bounce back and forth from your check and the driver. Some of us are also surmising that it may help to act as a waveguide.

The rear removal of cotton and grills is to make it even more open-backed.

So why the open back being more open then. This is very interesting to me, as I read about people modding with detail and how it sounds before and after , but not the reason behind the mod. I am all in to make some changes in the he6. And to spend a few bucks more is no biggie . I just do not want someone saying what to do but me not understanding why...thanks please continue even if some facts may be a little off at least the principle is there. Thanks

Because sound bounces off the grill and goes back towards the ear. Ideally you want less of that.

So what does this do to the base , I know if u cover the rear with u hands the bass is gone
post #10678 of 19437

It didn't affect bass at all in my experience.

Here is what I'd did and why. My house has 6 dogs. So my wife went out and when she came back all he'll was breaking loose downstairs so by accident intrude to cover my cans with my hands .nasside from not stopping the external noise it really depleted the bass. Maybe your hands are not big enough..

I meant opening up the grills did not affect bass.
