Isn't the Mini-Tori a full speaker amp?

for extra 100$ it can be transformed (modded) into LCD2 amp by Decware (gets a headphone jack)

Right, he wires a headphone jack and a switch between headphones and speakers.

IMO, Phonitor and Auditor are not the best choices for such low impedance and very power hungry headphones. My balanced HD53N with its maximum of 4.7 watts at 32 ohms in balanced mode (vs. Phonitor/Auditor's max. 1.7 watts at 600 ohms) makes far more sense with the HiFiMEN to me.

thanks mopps. I really want to buy the HE6 or HE4 but I don't want to spend more money on another amp because I really like the Auditor. Not sure what to do at this point

Don't get too stressed about the amp. Keep in mind a good deal of high end amps talked about on this forum are tailored for high impedance, low current headphones like Senn 650, K701, etc. There are some amps out there that are not that expensive that focus on the Grado/AT/Denon range that might be more ideal, given their maximum power is in the low impedance range, usually around 32 ohms. If you can find an amp that is putting out 5W or so at 32ohms, that should do an OK job with the HE-6. There's also the option of a relatively inexpensive integrated amp or lower power monoblocks, etc.

What?  Can you name one or two headphone amps that puts out 5 W into 32 ohms other than ones that also double as speaker amps???

I'm sure there are several. Mopps just mentioned an amp I'm unfamiliar with that is 4.7W at 32 ohm. There are several low end amps that produce 1.5-2W at 32ohm that are barely $100, so I would expect a high end low impedance amp to have double or triple that.

If my WA5LE/Realiser will not drive the HE-6 then Hifiman can have them back. At that point put me on your waiting list LCD-2.

i think you're just being silly, sally. wink.gif  the wa5 can drive k1ks and even speakers. isn't the le pretty much the same thing sans spkr taps?  someone reported that the prototype rsa sr71b was able to drive the he6s, and that's a portable amp. a powerful one, but a portable nonetheless.

btw, whatsa realiser?

Yes the WA5 has some very powerful transformers, the weight of the power supply is 40 LBS and the Amp is 35 LBS.

The SVS Realiser is a processor/pre/DAC that will give you the illusion of a full blown speaker setup and room acoustics of any room/ hall you want to copy for use with headphones. It was created by Dr. Smyth the same guy that gave us DTS.

In my case I use the AIX sound studio's room for 2Ch, 5.1Ch, 7.1Ch and also for there 5.1THX system. The draw back is that you must be present at any room's sound system to copy, there are ear mics you must ware and test tones generated by the Realiser going though the sound systems amps and speakers that the Realiser collects

to give you the same sound/speaker placements/acoustics as the room you copied.

Plus it has its own volume adjustment in the digital domain so you can increase the volume going out to your head amp. Or you can simply plug in a set of headphones(like my HD-800s) using the Realiser's 1/4" plug and bypass your head amp.

On a side note, I keep getting run-a-round E-Mails from head-direct in reply to my E-Mails about what is going on with shipping of my HE-6, but nothing is said when my HE-6 will be shipped. I paid for and placed my order last Saturday. frown.gif

I placed my order last Thursday and it's with the DHL courier now en-route to me. I'm sure you'll be receiving your shipped notification soon. Mine did get ship from HK tho.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. Yes I did read that somebody from the UK that ordered there HE-6 the same day I ordered got a shipping notice the next day.

Maybe what is going on with me is just a USA problem.

Update; this is the message I just got from there shipping department.

Your order was shipped via DHL express package today.  It will take about 3-4 days to be input into tracking system.confused.gif

Looks like they forgot your order for a while. Well soon you will be listening to them. I look forward to your impressions.

I ordered yesterday, got an email today asking for my phone # for delivery purposes. Guess mine is shipping soon.

I think for any of the faster shipping methods they are requiring a phone number now. I had an EMS held up because a company forgot to put my phone number down. I emailed about the HE-6 the other day to inquire about availability and they said they had plenty in stock for immediate shipment.

I sure like a good speaker amp to drive these headphones in particular, not a tough call at all smile.gif

Don't forget about the EF5, it's a smoking deal right now with the HE-4 for only an extra $250, that's the cheapest it's ever been

Plenty in stock, just in time for the holidays. L3000.gif Hope I get mine before the Thanksgiving weekend, plenty of time to listen.

If you are dealing with Ms. T. make sure she checks that the shipping manager in Hong Kong  has gotten your phone number. I didn't include my phone in my paypal check out, but I did send it to Ms. T right after I checked out from paypal. She was sure that she had sent my number, but after yesterdays E-Mail I sent, she must have check with the shipping guy.
