EDIT: (and when I say "at the moment", what I really mean is "at this moment", because surely I will change my mind in a half second)

If you want to spent the majority of your $$$ on a fancy case, then go for it. You dont even need to spend half that for a very nice HE-6 amp, then you can get yourself a new dac or speakers etc.

Integrated amps are very interesting.  I would have never thought about one until I heard the SimAudio Moon 600i  - Fantastic..

I would never think about buying the Darkstar, that's just me.  There's many amps that's better for less money.  Reno Hifi is a great place to start.  He has both 120v and 240v amps.

If anyone would like the Moon 700i for the price of the 600i, www.listeningpost.co.nz/ have an ex-demo for sale :)

$12,000NZD definitely too rich for my blood.

Has anyone heard the HE-6 with a FirstWatt J2?

I found a guy who has put up his used J2 for sale here in Korea. I would like to grab it before anyone else can, but to be honest I have absolutely no knowledge or experience with FirstWatt amps. I know many folks here enjoy FirstWatt amps, but I'd like to know if this J2 amp in particular would be a good match with the HE-6.

Its spec sheet is shown here, but specs don't tell everything.

I would never think of setting up my audio system, be it a desktop headphone rig or speakers, at a place other than the comfort of my own home. Call me selfish if you will, but I can't stand the thought of random people poking at or messing around with my expensive stuff without permission. The only things I'm taking outdoors are my trustworthy RWAK100 and JH13 Pro.

My office is a suite. No one goes through. It has an entrance only , there is four rooms inside . My list room also where my desk is. Bathroom, two other rooms . One room is a gym for me. Closets and storage. I have a small room elsewhere to meet clients and such. I do understand what you are saying though, but is just not like that. And aside from my friends who I invite no one see,s it.

OK, so I'm still taking my baby steps here on my HE-6 journey, can I just clarify a few things about speaker taps:

To connect to speaker taps I'll want a 4-pin XLR adapter for the HE-6 cable, and that should be terminated in banana connectors for plugging into speaker amps, yeah?

I presume when connecting the HE-6 like this to a speaker amp with a lot of power you'll want to have the volume set down to zero and slowly raise it, just to protect your hearing and the headphones while you work out how much play you have on the volume. Correct?

Up to what level of power would you guys just plug the HE-6 into without any concern whatsoever? Seems most are running amps with at least 50W into 8ohm, but many are using speaker amps with much higher power than that right?

Just want to confirm these things before I go out and blow up my ears and/or headphones trying my incoming HE-6 out on speaker amps :)

Should be entertaining heading out to some audio stores to do this, I doubt any of them will have seen or heard of anyone doing this here in New Zealand.

So far, so good - I'm running 265wpc with the HE-6 without incident. Admittedly, I'm being very careful but do crank it now and again! Members here wisely have me pluggin' in after turn-on and unplugging before turn-off in addition to zero volume.

Plugging in after powering on, unplugging before powering off, yes, that makes sense.

This wouldn't at all be nerve wrecking if it wasn't such a huge investment. :normal_smile :

As I am about to try some amps with the he 6. I am thinking of make a resister and muttering box
It will enclose the 8 ohm resisters to be accord each channel. And have 1k ohm resister
In series as a mute with a two pole switch. As this will allow me to hear when amp
Is connected and hear the music at a low volume
And then unmute to listen. Has anyone tried this ??
