I suppose to get to the bottom of this is contact HifiMan. If they state it never had a pure black finish without this hue, then I would be concerned. Where did you purchase yours? I bought mine from Audio Advisor, which is an authorized dealer.

My HE-6 looks more like dark indigo than purple to me, is it supposed to be purple?

 Following the convo I'm now confused: Are the cans suppose to be Black or Black w/hue?

I bought my HiFiMAN's from WooAudio.

Dubstep Girl described the hue perfectly. It's  like taking a black sharpie and scribbling it on a piece of shiny metal, like aluminum or something. You will see exactly the hue I'm talking about.

Mine were shipped 16th November 2010 and are purple

I just looked at it closely again outside the house with natural light.

There is no purple hue at all. Its solid black.

That purplish hue may have been added later on by using a slightly different mix of raw plastic by HiFiMan.

Mine are black.  Shiny black with no apparent hue under high color temperature fluorescent tubes.

I don't see Woo Audio on that list, but I am not going to assume anything here. I suggest you contact HifiMan about Woo Audio.

It may just be a change in manufacturing processes. Have you looked at the Dealer list i posted earlier?

But why? In addition to being a customer of both NY companies, HD & WA know each other... no concern here.

I can confirm mine are shiny Black. Unscrewed the cables and took the cans and held them under fluorescent lights. And then went outdoors into the California sun. With this being the Golden State, the cans appear to be ... seriously though, they look Black outdoors, too.

Brunk hello

If you wish to know the resistance of you wires look up table for wire resistance on internet it will give you ohms per thousand and use this .

The connectors and solder used is moot in this. As for the headphones impedance is the only real measurement and that is complex and timely . And you need several instruments . As for color mine are shiny black and from woo audio as well.

Well it just sounds like a change in the finishing process then. I think this whole thing started when someone said there was a future sale on the HE-6 for $500 lol, which caused some disbelief.

Back to our regularly scheduled program - What does everyone's cotton look like inside the grill? Since I had mine modded by a 3rd party, what is the 'reference' of these two since left and right are different. I know there will be slight variations across all of us, but I am curious.

You will also see the 'hue' I am talking about in the third picture. I used the camera on my phone, but disabled flash, and am showing a reflection of the ceiling so you can see the varying shade of color.
