Sennhesier HD600 (isolation)

Hi,

You might think i am crazy but how do the HD600 sound in local transportation via bus, plain, train. I am thinking of buy them and using them for local commuits do they isolate at all?

They will bother people around you and you will be forced to turn them up way too loud to drown out the ambient noise. There are many closed phones that will do a lot better job for a lot less money. Do some searching and you will find many opinions from Etymotics to Sennheiser PX-200's.

I attempted to use a HD590 for commute one day, just to see what it's like...

Well, I can't hear anything but the train.. I had to crank it way up beyond tolerable levels to even hear any of the music. You can pretty much wave that idea good bye...

On another note... anyone with suggestions of a closed set of headphone at around the quality of the HD600 for this person would probably help...

On yet another note.. if I really like the sound of HD590 coming straight from an iPod or a Super Mini.. how would I like the sound of the HD280?...

thank you everyone you answered my question. I currently have the sr125 no isolation the Shure E2C very isolated but has a little hiss which will be fixed soon with a 120Ohm resistor but looking for something less isolated but enought isolated and not in ear. I was looking at the HD25 or PX200 or PX100 what are peoples opinions on this?

The px200 works ok. You can still hear some of the outside sounds but you can also hear the music pretty well and the people around won't be bother by the music either. I'm used to the ety ER-4s, so the sound and the isolationg is just ok for me but they're under $50 and you don't have to worry about buying any amps or other add-ons.

The sound is largely different. The 590's are much warmer sounding and the soundstage is huge compared to the 280. On the other hand, the analytical sound of the 280 can be very nice if that's what you're looking for. Also the 280's low bass is to die for.

This isn't to say that the 280 is bass heavy, it isn't. It has very accurate bass with maybe a slight hump in low bass. The 590's have more overall bass with the 280's having more low bass. If you were to subject the two to a proper bass test you'd see what I mean.

PX100: Not terribly isolating. Perfectly audible, but people around you will hear you too.
PX200: Less so because it's slightly closed.
HD25-1: Very good isolation, much better sound than the PX series. Quite portable, and more efficient than the PX phones too.

The 280s isolate very well indeed, provided you can stand for your ears to be in there with that kind of sound...
