Trying to locate an iPhone LOD DIY thread

Thread Starter

I have searched and searched, then I searched some more...

I can find some pictures of the dock opened up, and a pinout... but nothing specifically on "HOW TO CREATE AN IPHONE LOD"

Can anyone help me out with a link? or advice?

I'm not a total electronics noob... but I'm definitely a beginner

Thanks!!

http://www.head-fi.org/wiki/diy-ipod-line-out-dock-pinout

pull pin 1 / 2 out

after pin 3 pull 3 tabs

then skip 1 tab pull 1 tab skip 1 pull 2 tabs skip one pull 4 tabs if you pulled 4 from the end your correct then just solder 11-15 resistor from 11/15-21

so like 01000101001000 are the pins you use.

            3      11 15  21

solder R channel to 3

L channel to 4

solder ground to 11/15 and your done.

If you have pictures of the dock and you have the pinout, I'm not sure what else you're really looking for.

Maybe this will help?

You need one wire to pins 2, 3, and 4 (ground, right, left, respectively). These are the wires that you'll connect to a plug to feed an amp or whatever you are connecting it to.

Internally there is still a little more to do. You need to connect a 68k ohm resistor between pin 21 and a ground pin (11, 15, and 16 will work for this).

After that, you just put the plug on, test it, and then close up the dock.

Sorry if that's info you already know, but that's what I figured you were trying to find.

Wait.. one more question...

What kind of wire is recommended for this (I know there are 100 fancy kinds) but what is the "standard"?

Thanks again

I don't think there is a "standard", but you'll likely want to use smaller diameter wires because those will be easier to work with in the small dock. Stranded is my preference because it's more flexible, but solid will work. Beyond that, it's really just up to you whether you want to go with cheap regular wire or special boutique kind of stuff.
