About 4-5 days ago I put a brand new power cable on myborrowed tube DAC. This cable is a one of a kind cable that I had commissioned to my specs. Took them 7 months to make it, but was REALLY worth the wait ! Here's the lowdown : It is made for sources, DACs, and lower powered power amps. It is 16 ga x3 , unshielded UPOCC copper that is silver plated with 6N silver, and it has a drain wire from the same UPOCC SPC. Each conductor is housed in Teflon, and the entire cable is then housed in a VERY, VERY thin Teflon outer coat. But it goes MUCH deeper than that.
Once the wire is finished being drawn and made, it is put on the bench and has done what is called a ramp burn. The power being fed into the cord is increased at a pre-determined level over an 24 hour period. Doing it this way “locks in” the conductivity treatment and the Furutech Nano fluid responds very well to this method.
When I placed the wire in my system a few days ago, I was shocked the sound really didn't change much ... even for the worse as expected before break in. The system has just sounded kind of "OK" and listenable. Last night, after not listening for probably 24 hrs, I sat down to listen and was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY blown away ! I feel as if I can get up from my listening recliner and walk all the way around each musician ! There is just that much air around each musical note, with the instruments sounding EXACTLY the correct size in the soundstage. Also, I just have never heard instruments or voice so so real before .... Not even on my stupid expensive home system.
I will finish with saying this : It makes my humble Pro900s sound like the T1s with EAR electronics did at the Boston meet, or better, and THAT is really saying something !
I expected a very open and dynamic cable when I designed the wire, having used various geometries and constructions with standard UPOCC copper wire in my DIY projects already ... but not in my wildest dreams did I expect THIS much !
Just goes to show that DIY can be a VERY rewarding experience !
