A complete DIY success story !

About 4-5 days ago I put a brand new power cable on myborrowed tube DAC. This cable is a one of a kind cable that I had commissioned to my specs. Took them 7 months to make it, but was REALLY worth the wait !  Here's the lowdown :  It is made for sources, DACs, and lower powered power amps. It is 16 ga x3 , unshielded UPOCC copper that is silver plated with 6N silver, and it has a drain wire from the same UPOCC SPC. Each conductor is housed in Teflon, and the entire cable is then housed in a VERY, VERY thin Teflon outer coat. But it goes MUCH deeper than that.

Once the wire is finished being drawn and made, it is put on the bench and has done what is called a ramp burn. The power being fed into the cord is increased at a pre-determined level over an 24 hour period. Doing it this way “locks in” the conductivity treatment and the Furutech Nano fluid responds very well to this method.

When I placed the wire in my system a few days ago, I was shocked the sound really didn't change much ... even for the worse as expected before break in. The system has just sounded kind of "OK" and listenable. Last night, after not listening for probably 24 hrs, I sat down to listen and was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY blown away !  I feel as if I can get up from my listening recliner and walk all the way around each musician !  There is just that much air around each musical note, with the instruments sounding EXACTLY the correct size in the soundstage. Also, I just have never heard instruments or voice so so real before .... Not even on my stupid expensive home system.

I will finish with saying this :  It makes my humble Pro900s sound like the T1s with EAR electronics did at the Boston meet, or better, and THAT is really saying something !

I expected a very open and dynamic cable when I designed the wire, having used various geometries and constructions with standard UPOCC copper wire in my DIY projects already ... but not in my wildest dreams did I expect THIS much !

Just goes to show that DIY can be a VERY rewarding experience !

Yes, please show us some pics of your build!

I'm running errands right now, but will post pics this evening. It's nothing special to look at, but WOW does it sound good.

I'm going to experiment this weekend, and build a braided power cable using three separate runs of this cable, for higher powered amplifiers. Hopefully I will still get the same results, even though it isn't really designed with this in mind.

If this isn't a troll, this thread is going to be very interesting.

Sounds good ! I'll be building my own solid silver mains cables in the next few months for my source gear and preamp. Your success only further cements my conviction towards doing something similar to your recipe (but far simpler and less expensive).

As far as conductor treatments are concerned that is a slippery slope of controversy no matter what board you belong to so I shall refrain from comment .

Peete ... I need to make a disclaimer here. There is NO WAY I can guarantee you will even get similar results without doing everything the exact same as I did. My construction techique is stupidly simple. Nothing special going on at all. As far as I can see, the ONLY differences in my cable, and many, many others is the fact that I used UPOCC SPC, as well as the voltage ramp and the Nano fluid. I have NO IDEA how any other cable, especially without the special extras I had done, will even sound.

Now, this is the DIY forum.  If you guys only want to rebuff what I have accomplished and am happy with, I will gladly leave the thread exactly as it is, and while the naysayers and trolling members from the "science forum" are left in the dark about my lucky success, I will go on enjoying the AWESOME sound this change has brought to my system.

This post was made for the purpose of spreading my happiness, and encouraging others about the positive paths of DIY. I have NO intention of defending myself to anyone. Bottom line :  I am VERY satisfied beyond my wildest dreams.

LOL ... I am not selling anything. Just sharing my enthusiasm.

Is it still DIY if you commissioned it? Perhaps it's more OIY: Order-It-Yourself?

I am waiting for Patrick to chime in!

You lost marks for Furutech and using copper.

LOL ... Good point !  I didn't actually make the cable. I dreamed it up, spec'd it, and ordered it.  Then again, there has to be SOME kind of DIY points .... Because no-one else can buy this cable

Not according to the sound. It sounds MUCH better than the pure UPOCC silver I used a few months back with Oyaide ends

Thanks for the additional info ....not to worry I don't expect the same results and I would never suggest your results are a figment of one's imagination, quite the opposite in fact. I happen to think cables make a big difference with my usual wire of choice being Mundorf silver/gold (for balanced and single ended IC's, internal hook up wire etc).

I'm pretty certain what I come up with will likely perform very well compared to my current mains cables (all copper and massive). Worth a try at least

Keep us posted.

Peete.
