When using the PWD2 as a preamp:

"With 6 vrms output I can't imagine an amp that could work normally within the volume range specified for no loss. Is it correct that using the PS volume control at a setting of less than 50 incurs a loss of resolution?"

Sounds about right.  High gain amps need not apply unless you use attenuators.  Single ended is 2.8v, balanced not surprisingly 5.6v, output impedance is 100ohm unofficially.

Paul McGowan does not recommend to set the PWD volume lower than 50%, not sure it is loss of resolution or not.

This is Digital Viloume control - correct?

I think the Mytek 129 DSD has Digital, Analog and Bypass..

Yea, I think I remember reading anything below 60% should be avoided. You lose some resolution though I haven't tested it myself. It's easy for me to keep the PWD at 100% and control the volume from the amp or PC.

X2, I do the same too.

I believe the question was because Prep and I have FirstWatt amps coming and butchering the face to mount a pot... probably a bad idea ;)  Because it's digital, if you play CDs you have 5bits of volume control to play with after that... resolution drop.  Now could you hear it given it's probably also very quiet?  To each their own.

Since it'll likely come up... it's 5bits and not 8bits because on average the 3 least significant bits are buried in the noise floor.  Add 8 if I'm off my rocker and the PWD2 receiver takes 32bit data ;)

Is there a router/switch that works well with a wired ethernet setup?  I am currently running a BDP-1 and would like to try a single purpose pc wired into the bridge.  I also don't like wifi.

Are there any alternative to the eLyrics software? Using a Synology NAS if that matters.

Elyric DLNA server is the only one which will support gapless. And I had issues with using DLNA clients (JRiver specifically) with Elyric too. That was a few months ago. I simply gave up.

Well, that's not what I wanted to hear. The PS forum isn't very active, this has to be a known issue that people are unhappy about.

People were pissed off about it on the PSA forums. Paul kept on promising gapless, and then realized it couldn't be done without cheating / resorting to special code. The anger has since subsided. I mean, what can you do about it?

Well.  Wired for me..

Yea, perhaps I should have said active as of late. You're right, I suppose. So this means there's no "fix" in the future really.

I'm using BubbleUpnp on a Droid for the client controller. I haven't found an iPhone program that is anywhere close to useful.

I use iSedora for a server. I haven't restarted it once or had any problems with it.

The PWD Bridge disappears from the net occasionally (the client ends up picking a different renderer), and then eventually hangs. 24hrs is the longest I've made it I think. Bah humbug those software people!

A MacBook Air is awfully tempting. I could at least drag my whole music collection around with one of those. And I could search, sort, have album art, gapless playback, etc. I'm re-talking myself into it as I type....
