Perfect Wave DAC Owner Unite - Page 77

Seems more like a layout/assembly revision than a circuit change.  Ala Bryston BHA-1 revisions that all share the same circuit but different layouts.

That seems correct but there's a bit of reported sound differences which are the bigger issue.

I would look for a used MKII that has the ability to run both 2.02 and 2.20 firmware.  In my rig, 2.20 is painful while 2.02 is excellent.  Not all MKII's can run 2.02.

The MK II is the only full size DAC that I've listened to for more than a 1/2 hour. And for me it has and continues to be a phenomenal piece of kit, making my music which is mostly 44.1/16 sound the best it ever has. The dealer I bought it from has a good selection of other DACs and he said it is very highly rated and continues to be compared to high end DACs costing double and triple more.

When I told a friend I purchased it he wrote "The folks at Changstar praise the PWD Mk2 highly" I have not sought out these comments.

One more PWD mk2 owner here. Just pulled the trigger on a heavily discounted new one off A-gon. Since many of you mentioned that the differences between this one and other TOTL DACs are really very minuscule, I decided to buy American for ease of access to maintenance (if need be), ease of return and to support local economy as much as possible (even though I suspect that large portion of the DAC are sourced oversees).  i have the DL iii from PS Audio, so I know the product quality from that company. I cannot wait to hear it!

Hope that is code for under $2300 which is the 'normal' street price for a new one.

Thats exactly what it was. I meant discounted off MSRP not that I got some awesome deal. Still I am pretty happy about it.

And Thanks Darryl. beerchug.gif

This was a pretty interesting watch about the birth of the PWD. Seems the boards are stuffed right here in the USA...

At what setting do you folks keep the volume control of the PWD?
I am leaving it at 100% and controlling with the amp.

Do you think it's ok to stack something on top? Being careful of the finish.

The PWD Mk2 was delivered today. And I just want to second what everyone else here said -- this is a very nice DAC! For now I am just streaming my iPod Classic over NDS1, and even through this basic set up I am enjoying the spacial layout, detail and extension. Thank you all who posted your thoughtful assessments and advice. I cannot wait to plug that thing into my main rig!

NativeX for the win =)

Interested in auditioning this DAC. Do any PWD owners run output to both headphone amps and powered speakers/monitors? One of features of my m903 that I really like is the ability to switch outputs and assign volume independently.
