Eric, what PWD firmware and Bridge firmware are you using?

2.2 and the bridge I haven't checked. Is there much of a difference there?

I'm also using 2.2.0. The reason I asked is because the newer PWDs can't be loaded with software version 2.0.3, which is supposedly preferred by many. According to the PS Audio forums, an updated digital input board is to blame, as only 2.2.0 has the drivers for it. I know Paul himself prefers 2.2.0, but I'd like to be able to decide for myself... Oh well.

Regarding the bridge firmware, the latest version sounds congested to me (2.14b). I've stuck with 2.13c since I received my unit. The only downside is the pause function does not work correctly with this version and will skip to the next track instead of pausing the current one.

Oh, also, I just recently took my PWD off of the 'Auto' filter mode in favor of filter number 4 (I believe it's the minimum phase apodizing filter).

Read it differently the first time for some reason.  That said, the PWD2 stomps the W4S on instrument placement focus as in pinpoint 3D space height width depth.  The W4S simply had no depth or height component in comparison.

If you can hold out a few months.  The Off Ramp 6 will be released.  I made the decision to hold out.  Steve did say you would be able to upgrade from the 5 to the 6 tho.  "I think" the only differences will be a XMOS USB interface and the USB input galvanically isolated.

I must have the same version. That explains a lot! For the life of me I couldn't understand why it skipped on pauses. A real pain in the ass!

Yeah, there we hear differently. The W4S had great depth in my rig and very precise placement. Particularly the audiophilleo, the aqvox usb power and the Shunyata PC's all had a positive influence.

Alrighty......I know this set up with the PWD II no one has seen before. Until the Taboo I have on order is built and shipped this is the way I will listen.

5 OZ amp feed by 33 LB dac ....... and you know what? It sounds pretty darn good too! LOL

Glad to have joined the the PWD club.

anyone compare PWD MK2 to Ayre QB-9? My main source is a computer so I can live with USB only DAC like the QB-9. And BTW, I am obsessed with detail and spacial placement way over timber and tonality or even musicality.

Reviews suggest the difference is tonal tilt, QB-9 being a little light footed, and that the staging on the QB-9 is fuzzy while the PWD2 is laser focused.

Get some battery power on that PWD!

^Bet that set-up of Saraguie's sounds like at least 65 lb. of good gear. tongue.gif

I just bought a pair of 1st gen 2GB SD cards so I can keep firmware revisions 2.02 and 2.2.0 at hand.  (I think I like the treble quality of 2.02 and the bass control/impact of 2.2.0.)

The Benchmark DAC1 has been small, versatile, consistent, clean, and great for comparison/evaluating gear.

But with the HD800, the PWD does it with the BA for me now.  Big, engaging sound that I wanted since the first mini-meet I heard it at.
