HD 600 right for me?

I currently own a HD 280. I like them and don't hate them like a bunch of other people. Anyways, I am hopingto get a pair of HD 600 headphones and a little dot mk I amp to go with it. Mymusical tastes are alternative and dnb and movie scores like Hans zimmer. I like bands like muse, massive attack and owl city. Are the HD 600 cans right for me? Thx in advance wywern

They do a great job with guitar music, the mids and bass are perfect. You need a good amp to drive them, i tried them with the Valve RKV Mark II.

how do they pair up with a little dot mk I+? and i have heard the case is made of carbon fiber or plastic. which one is it?

Note that I've only listened to the 650 once. But I think they'll work better with Muse and Massive Attack due to the bass and overall more aggressive sound. I listen to quieter music and 600 is my choice. But then again, 600 is cheaper by like 70 bucks...

i sort of went with the 600 considering that they both utilize the same drivers and that it shouldn't make THAT  much difference. If the extra bass  and the aggressive sound is worth the extra like 180 im gonna pay cuz im ordering on amazon and if i want the warranty honored, i have to pay like full retail.the HD 600 is selling for 318 from an authorized dealer so is the aggression and bass really that much more better on the 650? because i can wait a bit more till i make my wallet cry. I also heard on other reviews that the 600s already had some pretty strong bass.

EDIT:

i found this comparison on our very own head-fi forums done by progo. he said that after burn in, the 650 and the 600 sound pretty much identical save for the 650's slightly deeper bass.

i am also  wondering how the HD 600 pairs with the Little Dot  MK I+ amp. is there decent synergy or is there an amp in the same price range( up to 170 shipping inclusive to US) that will fare better with this set of amazing cans( or so i've heard).

EDIT:

I did some looking around and found out the PIMETA amps also pair well with the HD 600. which one is better? the pimeta or the mkI+ synergy wise with the HD 600?

HD 600 has the same driver as 580, not 650. And used sennheiser from the forum here has the same warranty. Senn says that they honor the transfer of warranty.

really... i thought the 650 shared the same driver. o well. w.e

anyways, the comparison thread said the bass was a bit deeper on the 650. that is to be expected i suppose. the hd 650 appears to go lower in the bass registers in the freq. graphs on headroom compared to the the 600. I ma wondering if that bit more deeper is worth like 100+ more bux outta my wallet.

I think the HD600  has more than enough bass to satisfy.  I auditioned them with a ton of Radiohead (the electronics sounded DEEP), and I' ve never heard bass so naturally weighty and articulate.

radiohlite, so you concur that for about 150 bux less than the 650, the 600 is definitely worth it? how does the sort of distorted rock guitar sound on it?

so does anyone know about the synergy between the MK I+ and the HD 600? how about the pimeta?

I think you're better off going with the Little Dot MKII or MKIII for the HD600 since the I+ is optimized for low resistance headphones and not high resistance headphones such as the HD600.

the description on the site said it has 3 gain settings for dif ohm headphones. it says it can handle up to 300 ohms. that and the mk2 and 3 are tube amps. i am not ready for the maintenance these amps require and would prefer something solid state.

technical Specifications:

  • Line Input: 3.5mm (1/8") mini-stereo
  • Headphone Output: 3.5mm (1/8") mini-stereo
  • Frequency Response: 5 Hz (-0.6dB) to 200KHz (-0.3db)
  • THD+N: 0.0010% (1V @ 1000 Hz)
  • Suitable Headphone Impedance: 8 - 300 ohms

Yes, the headband is made of carbon fiber, but you have to becareful with it... it's not flexible.  I own a pair of 600's but I use them on my receiver, desktop amp, and xenos amp.  You need an amp that has the power to drive 300ohm, otherwise they won't sound to their potential.
