Right. Now, after only a few weeks, it looks like I am proved right even sooner than I thought.

First of all Sonic already knows (although he hasn't even listened to the combo) that JH 3A / JH16 Pro is the next best thing on planet Earth so he's going to sell the JH13, the Hifiman, the Protector and everything else for the next best toy because other Head.fiers say it's worth it. Tons of rave reviews to be expected and, obviously, trashing everything else apart from his best in the world combo.

Regarding the Hifiman guess what: a lot of people are suddenly selling it. Why? Because for 700$ extra, one  can now get a nice JH13/JH16  Pro with a transportable amplifier/DAC that will take the already best IEM to the next level. Now the only thing required is a source feeding digital signal to Jerry's new toy. And unfortunately the best portable player in the world can't output any digital signal at all. I have a feeling that the new Hifiman might have that coaxial output but Head Direct must seriously reconsider the price, otherwise the good old H-130 which costs a third of the price and is much more usable because it can be Rockboxed, has a nice remote etc might be the next best thing in the portable world. Who would have thought of that?

1st of all, JH3 A combo is not MP3 player if i understand it right? it still requires the source ( mp3 player every one ?? )

2nd directly quoting sonic and saying he is going to sell his stuff ? not cool ~ as i cant find any way he say that. and yes many will trashing every thing else as you turn out to be 1st to trash hifiman 801 ( i only know you now because your post in hifiman thread :) please to meet you )

3rd as you " god knows all " predict alot of people are suddenly selling it ? well, not cool at all :) but yeah some will sell it for and not for the reason you quote " JH3 A "

i want one - JH3 A ~ but to me buying the combo is exactly the same choice of getting a desktop combo for me ~ we still dont know the portability of the combo such as power source ? plug or battery ? also i for one didnt like the idea of custom made earphone coz i cant share with my family member ~ my younger brother ,  my dad - who also into audio but too busy to listen, my mum who i found joy knowing she enjoy the same thing that we all love ~ wonderful musical experience !! JH3 A is not a sharing experience to me, it becomes personal experience..... i have no doubt it could be the coming best( for as long as it stays ) but i am a family guy and same thing i against buying a mention just so every one has a floor or double bedroom with bathroom to each self as to what we currently have. JH3A is some thing i want but not some thing i need. the compromise is too great to me.

Pleased to meet you too, Testrichard.

I don't like to make any statements without facts so here are the facts:

regarding the size and portability of JH 3A have a look here

regarding the battery read here

why you need a digital source here

Sonic's plans here and here. Funny enough, he hasn't even heard the JH 3A but already speaks about inferior sound quality.

That's Sonic

Hifiman's for sale - check the sale thread ;).

Unfortunately I totally agree with revenge about the HifiMan 801:

Fang is great.  The company (he) really wants to get a quality product out there.  But $800 for a player that almost fails the RMA tests and can't play standard IEMs in stock trim is what I describe HeadFi madness (where is Patrick when we need him).

Sonic is enthusiastic about this rig.  He is a little overzealous...with that said revenge, stop picking on him!  I would just take his reviews with a grain of salt.  :)

I love the idea of the Hifiman.  But for the all the reasons revenge gave, he is DEAD ON.  There is no way I am going to spend $800 up front for portable technology.  None.  And what's funny, I think revenge and myself ARE the target demographics for devices like these (audiophiles, have or do own high-end audio equipment, etc. etc.).

I just saw the 602 release announcement...sigh...if the 801 was $400 bucks and the 602 was $200 bucks, this would at least make me consider it provided the GAME amp module came standard.  I would consider it.

immtbiker said something which kinda tipped me off...the 801 is great for plane and train rides.  Not for taking to the gym, or walking around school with it.  Its just not.  Its a big brick.  You really want a great source, use your notebook, get bitperfect out of it, dispense with micro SD cards and spend your money on something like the JH-3A combos or a full desktop rig.

To answer your question, I think the Flo2 is the way to go right now...

It's hard for me to imagine how any portable source is a better value proposition than an iPad plus camera connection kit right now.  Digital out, pick your own DAC and amp.  And you get all the other things an iPad can do.

Sflo2 is way cheaper, has direct LO w/o a kit and better internals.  Granted it won't sustain Darth Jobs and compromise your personal information and security like the iPad will, definitely more versatile.

^ Good point ;)

But I have the T51 and love the player to death; I don't have any problems with battery life as I'm always around a plug or my computer, the sound quality is astounding and the LO is awesome going into a portable amp.

I really want to try the new J3 or the Sony players and see how they stack up though; comparing with the Clip+ both amped by the Rx, the s:flo2 beats the Clip+ in sound quality.
