Audio-gd Fun DIR9001 Vs DIR8416

I emailed audio-gd, but didnt get a response as of yet.   I mainly listen to rock/metal music and  watch action movies.  I dont think any of my music is 24/192Khz, but it may be in the future who knows.   Im a bit worried about the DIR8416's jitter and soft rich sound, like the website says.  Which is better for my tastes?

I'm quite sure it's a typo...his site hurts my brain anyway, broken english is just very annoying to read

 

some ppl say that DIR9001 can reach <50ps jitter, and CS841x <200ps....but hardly anyone has the right gear to measure jitter properly anyway. of course you'll find some self-proclaimed "experts" that can DBT them, mind you.

I thought this was already covered in another thread :) DIR9001 is technically superior and the chances of 'needing' 192kHz decoding are slim to none. You can find legal high res 24/96 downloads well enough, 24/192 not nearly as much. That's not to mention that most high res recordings (SACD and DVD-A) are DRMd anyway and don't run through a DAC. I'd go with the DIR9001 if it had to be one of the two.

 

But here's the thing if you are that much on the fence: the extra module costs $22 and if you order it with the FUN it will add $0 to shipping. Someone who might consider the module separately after a purchase is looking at +$15 for shipping. I would wager that you could buy both, keep the one you like, and sell the other one for no loss (sell it for $22+domestic shipping.)

I always end up picking the DIR9001 after liesting to both closely...what's more the combination of DIR9001 and the Alterra Cyclone II DSP is a match made in heaven......for over a year now I've been intently listening to the DSP1/DIR9001 combination and I've yet to find a single drawback to that pairing. As for 24/192 it's a uselss format when 24/88.2 or 24/96 is available. Hell even 16/48 is darn good. I wish the new standard was 24/48 or 24/88.2 but that is not likely to happen in my lifetime and I was an eager early adopter of of the DVD-A format back in 2001. Sadly I backed the wrong horse even though I feel 24/96 LPCM is superior in every way to SACD or redbook (IMO at least) but ...SACD is now on life support although SONY did release a new SACD ref player (curiously enough). Still... DSD has issues with the way it handles high freq much like sigma delta dac's for redbook or LPCM.

There's like half a dozen headphones that have a upper frequency response limit that exceeds the frequency response potential of 24/96 files. I think you need special microphones to record 50khz-90khz well anyway :p, probably just a few rare 24/192 files record them properly.
