1/8" mono to stereo as fix?

i've got an iphone with a broken headphone jack; i get sound to the left and none to the right. i have seen the ribbon connectors for sale, but i find the installation to be very scary, intimidating and/or fragile. i tried searching for a small 1/8" mono to 1/8" stereo to split the left channel to both 'phones, but since i live in canada, they would have to be shipped. the source doesnt carry what i need, and we no longer have a radioshack (which does not ship to canada). i also tried futureshop and ebay to no avail. if necessary i could try and solder something up but my soldering skills are very, very poor and i cant imagine something slim/unintrusive working that way.

this is what i need, right? mono is the left channel?

heres an example

any thoughts?

I found the iphone to be one of the easier ipods to work on, opening it is particularly straight forward.

Replacing the hpo with a new replacement part is not as hard as it might seem and is the only real solution here apart from just forgetting the hpo all together and just running a lod into an amp. . .

thanks for the reply. i think i'll get to it when the plug eventually falls apart the rest of the way, but i just hate the idea of dozens of tiny screws to get lost, connectors/wires to break... iphones to brick.

just in case this comes up on a search, after much blood and tears i found an ebayer in ontario with the plug i was looking for. they were all about $5 after S&H and it should be here in a few weeks; be diligent with your search terms!

i'll post how it works after i convert and plug 'er in.

**edit

works great, no crackling/bad connection issues despite the loose jack. stereo is a nice novelty and adds some dimension, but i can definitely live without it. i'd recommend this as a temp fix without hesitation.

also, i got a pair of KSC75's in the mail same time as the adapter, had about 8 hours to listen. i'm far from an expert with little listening time so far, but using the one working bud on my e2c's as reference, i would say they have more bass impact, but muddier and with less extension. the treble sparkle is not too overbearing, but plenty enough to badly expose crystallized cymbals on some of my tracks (embarrassing) more so than the e2c's, very forward sounding and definitely open. mid-high range was lacking, but overall sound stage was almost as good and sound quality also quite good. fun. lots of sound leakage, they are more like speakers placed next to ears than headphones, so wont be blasting out double bass in class, library, etc. to generalize, ~70% of the e2c's, IMHO.

very, very happy for $25 shipped! recommended.
