Replacing output socket of iBasso D2 amp

Basically my output socket on my iBasso D2 (the first type, not the D2+) came loose so it wasn't outputting sound properly (it only played through 1 headphone and eventually became worse) and I tried to send my amp back to them for repairs (back at the end of January) but no one picked it up so it ended up getting sent back here and arriving in May...

So I've decided to try to repair the amp myself, but it's my first time doing this sort of stuff, so I was just wondering whether I should replace the output socket completely or not. And if I should, where could I possibly buy such a component (keeping in mind I live in the UK)?

And if anyone knows how to dismantle the D2, that would extremely helpful if you could fill me in as well (rather not completely wreck the amp).

Hey

I fixed my p3+ output as well.. mine broke the second day, it was the contact point of the ring which broke..

anyway I got a replacement from maplin and did the work myself.. taking the amp out shouldnt be a problem. what you need is a soldering iron, a solder wick and some solder..

i dont know what exactly did ibasso used in d2 for the jack but it should be this one

Is that the D2 Viper (I have one sitting on the desk in front of me)?

If so I believe the way to open it is to undo the four front bolts (small allen key) and the circuit board slides out with the front fascia. You may be lucky in that the problem is a bad or dry solder joint where the 3.5mm socket is soldered on the board. So a simple heat up and melt of the joint may suffice.

Should you want to remove the front fascia you have to pull the on/off volume knob off, this is best done before you undo the front bolts.

Good luck with the repair.

Hm, sounds simple enough then, I'll give it a go when I get around to actually trying to replace i

Also quick question, should it be worst case scenario and I need to replace the socket, the actual quality of the socket itself doesn't affect sound quality too much...?

well I dont thk so.. Im not sure if you can find gold or silver ones anyway.. I mine as good as it gets.

So, several weeks later

Replaced the socket and no dice, dad had a look at the circuit board and can't really deduce any problem

Pretty much out of ideas of what the problem might be now
