ATH-M50 11 ft cable problem

Well i've decided to go ahead and purchase the ATH-M50 headphone. However, the only thing that is stopping me from purchasing is the over-kill cable(Which is about 11-10 feet long). I only need about a 4 foot long cable to reach from my pocket to my headphones.

I've read around that i can cut the cable to the desired length and solder the cable. Question is: Will this damage my sound quality of any sort?

If properly modded, no.

Why don't you go with the coiled version? I really love mine and prefer it over all other expensive cables I own.

For the reason that i'll be using them for my Itouch/ipod. So the coiled cable is bound to stretch down-wards.

Well anyways,My father's rather good at soldering so that's my what i'm going for. However,i'm unfimiliar in know where the cables go (Ground cables and such) I take it there's not a DIY guide?

should be easy just need to buy a new 1/8th plug neutrik are cheap then open up the plug end look at what color is R / L / G then cut the cable to w/e length you want strip it back solder the wires on and your done. it will not hurt the sound at all if done correctly which is hard to not do.

^Agreed. Even if you are a complete novice at it, you can learn to solder something this simple on the job, so to speak. Lots of guides online as well if you feel you really need them.

If you are worried, what I recommend doing is to snip the wire not at the desired length, but close to the end point of the 11ft cable. If you mess up, no harm done. Just move up a bit and try again. Doing so will give you many many opportunities to practice. Once you get it right, just cut the cable to your desired length and repeat the process one last time.  If done properly, and as others have stated it is exceedingly difficult not to, there will be absolutely no difference in sound quality.
