Review: Fischer Audio FA-003 - a neutral champ! - Page 192

Nice to see people are so much enjoying these headphones, no bad opinions as far as I saw.

My question to you guys is how do these compare to the Sennheiser HD25-1 II, because I had them for a while and that would bring me some reference, are FA003s better, worse, in what aspects? I am thinking of getting the FA003 Ti veriosn which is the newer model and better. It is also $50 more expensive.

Wanted to add one more question if I may, at $140 which headphone would you say has better sound value AKG 240 Studio/240 MKII, or FA003 (non Ti)? I like easy listening kind of music, electronic, ambient, jazz, smooth jazz.. close to that. Thanks.

Looking at the graphs here I'd say AKG 240 is better, or not?

The FA-003 just arrived, and the OP is right. They are indeed a neutral champ! Like a closed HD600 with more present midrange.

How are you liking the detail compared to the HD600?

Smoother, less grain to the sound, more liquid.......but the sound is way too in-your-face.....it's like sitting three feet from the screen at a movie theater....and being pushed into the screen if you turn up the volume to anything higher than low volume.

What's your source and amp?

iFi iCAN....gives nice space and imaging to my other cans. FA-003 is a bit claustrophobic. I will spend more time with it, using very familiar tunes.

There is some sense of space...and the FR is pretty nicely balanced....but wearing these makes me feel like I was put in a small room with a set of speakers playing, and someone has shut the door, turned off the lights and nailed the door shut.

I felt similar after getting the Q701... I ended selling them. They are good, but they were lacking a little bit of detail, and they are extremely big to be a portable option. At the price of the Jaycars, they are good option though.

Claustrophobic as in:

  • Small sound-stage, or
  • Tight clamp? OR,
  • Both?

Somebody mentioned somewhere they were kind of cavernous and it´s absolutely true. The FR is pretty balance, but I don´t know exactly why you can notice the vocals are somewhat distant and with echo. You can easily fix it with eq though, but the initial feeling is like the band was playing in a cave and you were listening from the outside, and I suppose that provides a claustrophobic effect on the sound.

There is space in the soundstage, it's not cramped. The cans are very light in weight but I think it is the combination of the physical bulk, the size, the clamp, and the complete shutting off of the outside world.
