They are awesome for double checking critical mastering files. They are awesome for simple music enjoyment as well. During the time that has elapsed, only one other full size headphone has impressed as much but the review is pending on that one.

FA-001?

What is your opinion of the FA003 vs Sennheiser HD580/600/650 series? Assuming of course that your Yoga model is the same as the Fischer branded version.

It's hard to compare open and closed headphones.

If it helps you, I think it's in the same league as the HD280Pro. It's more balanced sounding but the mids sound pressed and the resolution is about the same without the emphasis on the heights.

BUT!

If you remove the back cover the sound is immediately boosted to a higher class. I had the cover removed for the photo and listened to it real quick before I wanted to put the cover back on. I was stunned because it still sounded good which is rare on closed phones. So I also removed the other cover and...wow.

What a difference. It's not big, but big enough to matter. The mids don't sound compressed any more and voices and instruments really start breathing and have more body. It also takes away that slight "dullness" that can be heard with covers on. So I think this is originally the result of sound bouncing back from the cover.

Try it out - it's just 4 little screws on each side, absolutely reversible.

This is intriguing.

Thank you for the informative reply m00h. I will definitely try removing the covers.

I thought I had read the FA003 and FA002 have the same drivers, except one is closed and one is open... I wonder if you take the covers off of both, then would they sound identical? Anyone have both to try?

I think if it's sounding on the level of the HD280Pro, they can't be burned in enough. 150 hours + is needed.

I'd burn them in before taking off the covers. These are on par/better than my DBA-02s in most aspects, so they aren't slouches.

Hey guys , i am at the edge of making decision between 002 and 003.. LFF said 003 is a closed dynamic that has "open" sound.. I am not an audiophile but as i know opened back headphones doesnt produce much bass like closed do.. So the problem is i am a basshead , do 003 produce both qualitative and quantitative bass? I have ordered one pair of 003 from moscow because i am studying in russia atm and i am going to pay for them tmr.

Any suggestion is welcomed , thank you =)

The bass on the FA-003 is neither lacking nor exaggerated. It simply puts out what is on the recording. That being said, if the recording has some thumping bass, the FA-003 will let you know. The FA-003 also responds well to EQ. If you want some kicking bass, just add a few db on your computers graphic eq at 50cps and 120cps.

I received my pair this morning from Bugden Audio and have listened to them for the last two hours.  These have to be the most open sounding closed headphones I've ever heard.  They are incredibly accurate to the recording and have great, neutral bass.  I'm absolutely loving these and for $180, they are a bargain.  It's cool they I got a pair of soft pads as well as the leather ones.  Thanks LFF for the great review!  I should also mention these sound incredible out of my Meir StepDance
