Which OS are you using? With which foobar version?

For USB and SPDIF of any kind. Typical conscious is the latter is better. YMMY though, and it's best to try it out first and compare its quality with USB input on your DAC1.

Anyway, I just got my HD 600....and it sounds better without burning than my HD595..

1) I have a little dot dac 1...it support 24/192, but in foobar there is only option to change the bit (8,16,24, or 32). Should I change that to 24? how about the 192 khz? any setting need to be done for the 192 khz? what is that ST controller?

2) for the wasapi, why the sound blurred and lagging with distortion? I try to lower the buffer. does low buffer length has anything to do with the sound quality? I know my dac is connected to USB and it may cause the distoriton, but anything to handle it?

3) and if you guys has any advise or suggestion to set up the foobar with my little dot dac it will be nice...

any help will be appreciated...

I use vista 64 bit and foobar 2000...what buffer should I use? will it degrade the quality?

WASAPI Exclusive/400ms and you're good to go

and how about the setting on the bit depth and rate? could I just choose the higher one?

I don't think buffer length will affect audio quality beside if it's too short you might get crackling output as this buffer is starved by slow IO. I didn't notice any sonic difference with any foobar output on my Windows 7 64bit machine with my DAC, YMMV though. Still I'm using ASIO4ALL to wrap wasapi into ASIO output for foobar as I prefer the faster response of ASIO volume to WASAPI. I set foobar output buffer length to 3000ms and ASIO buffer to 2048 samples. These settings work great for me to mitigate cracking output when I turn off a bunch of VMware virtual machines that I was working with (with WASAPI I got crackling in this case). You might wanna try this as it might works better in your configuration, too.

For DirectSound with foobar newer version on Vista/7, bitdepth is locked at 32bit FP which is the right thing to do for better peace of mind of less conversion as I said in one of my previous posts. For WASAPI you have to choose the bitdepth that your DAC supports, which is 16bit in this case for USB input. For the configuration of ASIO4ALL I mentioned here it's handled by ASIO4ALL as the ASIO device this little program exposes to foobar has 32bit depth support regardless of your DAC input. About rate, did you mean sampling frequency? Where do you set that setting?

OK, perhaps you should explain exactly what you mean when you call someone a "Troll".

Try NoX SoX resampler or PPHS. But both are bit limited..

My best advice is to use something compatibile with ReClock or at least able to force WASAPI to use freq you want.

Im using MPC + ReClock for highest quality, and when I want to just "listen" music, its uLilith + WASAPI (uLilith can force it to use 192KHz only and even 64bit FP if you want). Good way is FooBar with ASIO (or ASIO4ALL), but its limited to 48KHz I think (maybe resample via NoX SoX or PPHS).

If your DAC can do 192/24, try MPC (Media Player bundled with K-Lite codecs, theres even madFLAC, which sounds really great) and ReClock set to 192/24. Im pretty sure, that if it works, it will have great sound.

Edit: Or 16bit, if USB cant handle more..

SoX Resampler, nor Nox

Normally I just use foobar's resampler (PPHS) set to 44.1 kHz cause that's the most common format in my music collection. (with DS also set to 44.1/16, of course)

Other DSPs I use are bs2b (crossfeed to eliminate fatiguing stereo separation) and foo_convolve (in place of the equalizer).

I use Japanese VST chainer called "Console" through Foobar's component George Yohng's VST wrapper. Console is similar to Acon EffectChainer or EnergyXT, but Console is more stable and convinient. In console, when I listen to headphones, I use the following plugins: Isone Pro Stereo and Waves IDR. Sometimes I use SPL TwinTube. The chain ends with TT-DR-Meter. Isone Pro Stereo makes headphones sound as speakers. Waves IDR is a ditherer. SPL TwinTube is an advanced harmonics and saturation tool. TT-DR-Meter is a clip and dynamic range indicator.

When I listen to speakers, I also use Console, but I replace Isone Pro Stereo with FabFilter where I reduce the frequences which resonate in my room (I found them with a mic and Room EQ Wizard software).

I cannot listen to headphones without a crossfeed plugin any more (IsonePro, Redline Monitor, etc.)

This is my setup -

Dsp's:

Noname EQ-eq.png

Channel Mixer

Dolby Headphone

DSP Chain Presets - Headphones normal, Headphones score, Headphones score 1, Headphones score 2, Headphones score 2B, Headphones score 3 , speakers.

The "score" presets change the settings in channel mixer depending on how i feel.

Channel mixer and Dolby headphone is brilliant btw!! (Sound stage reaches the next room (so hard to go back to normal))

I listen with AKG k701 and with this set up it sounds SO DAMN GOOD, SO MUCH clarity, details, instrument separation and soundstage.

My best set up yet!
