I tried a few stores here in Australia, none of them have even heard about it.

Search for LME49710 on google, go to National's page for it, click "order" and order some samples for only a few dollars :)

I would recommend trying the new LME49990 too, just not to be too predictable lol. It's a new chip and no one seems to have tried it in this forum yet (whatever the reason, since it's been available for a couple of months now).

This may sound really foolish but Kingwa mentioned of a tool to take the stock OPA out from the unit to replace it, what tool is available, could I pluck it by hand.

Yep, I know there exists a dedicated tool... but trust me, a precision flat screwdriver and a bit of practice and you're fine anyway.

The LME49710 is a great opamps for audio.  I have built many dual channels modules for associates adn they use them in everything from soundcards to DACs.

I wouldn't; worry about a dedicated IC puller as it is a waste of money.  As others suggested use your finger nail or a small knife or screw driver..

I use a pair of small-nose pliers with teeth. Grab the front and back.

a friend of mine tried it actually, he said it was like in the virtual barbershop when he puts the plastic bag on your head
