I come from a place & mindset where if you breathe wrong, you can get choked hard enough until you "Breathe right". Now you might die/you might not, either way your life is worthless here.
Great quote!
As much as it upsets me I used to be one of those guys "Rap music is all s**t they have no talent". Fast forward 5 years and all I listen to is hip hop. I think once you stop accepting new music is the time when you get old. Like my parents, they are only about 50 some but they haven't listened to any sort of new music since highschool.
Just saying I can't get too upset when someone doesn't understand what we see in our music, It goes over a lot of peoples heads.
Anyone even check out the K-Rino song links I posted.
Like to hear what people thought about him.
Look Around You is a sick track, i queued his albums but i don't really want to make premature conclusions i like to listen to large amounts before making decisions but so far the guy has good content as far as being socially conscious and has some good story telling and word play.
Just saying I can't get too upset when someone doesn't understand what we see in our music, It goes over a lot of peoples heads.
Indeed, any amount of people who don't like the genre doesn't affect me in any way. It however affects them negatively as they don't get to find those gems that make the genre shine, and they will never know it.
What is funny though, is that talk is cheap (clearly) and if rappers were really so enraged and up in arms about all these issues they rap about, maybe they would do something like give back to their communities instead of spending their money on ridiculous items for self aggrandizement and perpetuating the myth that fame is the key to success. Actions speak louder than words... so I guess they make up for all their meaningless talk with gunshots, don't they?
A LOT of these rappers do just that right off the top of my head Nelly (one of the most main stream artists around) has the 4Sho4Kids Foundation which helps educate under privilaged youth about leukemia.
D. Dolan has an entire website, Knowmore.org, which creates transparency within corporations.
Lupe Fiasco and Kenna have been doing a lot for 3rd world country as well lately.

In June 2008, Immortal Technique partnered with Omeid International (Non–Profit Human Rights Organization) to lend his support in this human rights organization. He dubbed his charitable work as "The Green Light Project". With the profits of The 3rd World album, Technique traveled to Kabul, Afghanistan to help Omeid build an orphanage without any corporate or external funding. The orphanage was a success and is housing over 20 orphaned children from Kabul.[12]
Okay, time to drop some lyrics. I guess people think anyone can write this shit.
My names Derrick, I'm from Queens right there on Merrick
Raised of honesty, loyalty, good merits
Gotta lil sister and my pops just perished
And I just came home so my freedom I really cherish
Young when they bagged me, seven in the can is torcher
And I just did that for manslaughter
Odds was against me, murder in the second degree
Made it less 'cause I gave 'em a plea
That's the past, now a dude home tryna clean up his past
When all niggaz kno me for is the past
And my minds always thinking how to pocket some cash
They know if something ever sparked it'll cock it and blast
Now I'm tryna live straight and get my act together
But my moms struggling, she putting scraps together
Long time ago, when I wasn't home she was cleaning my room
Cried when she found a gat in the dresser
Said no child of hers woulda had dat, never!!!
But with all the dirt I was doing
I felt like I hadda protect her, I hadda protect us
Stead of me sellin crack forever
She rather be ina shop right, getting bags together
Passing endeavors, wont allow me to get work
Forced me to get work
On apps they ask if you ever been to jail, like if I say yes you'll hire me
NIGGA DON'T LIE TO ME!!!
I gotta lil sister that's nine
Plus moms is chillin, wit some new dude I think she feeling
But he don't help with the bills and I'm back on the script
So we don't go broke, I'm back to this hammer that I hafta tote
Stash ya kno, I'm killin em, only nigga on the Ave. with coke
Only man in the house, I gotta bring in cash
And those two chicks a month that mom get don't last
Lil Sally still young she developing fast
Oh, you thinking the same thing, it's a hell of a task
Then it clicked me, plain close, cops came to get me
But knew that I had mine on threaten to hit me
And I moved swiftly, said they had a warrant
They knew about it all they said they had an informant
I'm back in this caged up cell
With the apes in jail, now I'm back in this eight by twelve
See I tried to live right
But society ain't made for niggaz to live right
Mommy just write
Mommy make sure Sally keep her shit tight
And I'll be home real soon, don't cry, it's iight
When we gonna learn to treat our people sacred
Theres some type of way kid, we're all related
When we gonna grow and get rid of the hatred
'cause this shit happens on a regular basis, this shit happens on a regular basis
This type of shit happens everyday kidd
What you know about solitary
Locked down, no commencary
And you wild or ready
And you just seen your mom get buried
You got drowns, comin' in all kinds of flurries
What you know about your towel on your cell when you alone at night
Or a jailhouse hunger srike
Or you sittin' in your cell and just zone one night
And you think "damn, I'm neva comin' home one night"
You got 5 years in, neva been flown a kite
You hearin' grown men moan at night
They got you stuck in the can
White man got you fuckin' your hand
Your wife on land fuckin' your man
What you know about no parole Life in the hole Lifes cold, you be eatin' them swags Guards on the nightshift they be beatin' you bad The hardest nigga turned bitch, be sleepin' wit fags
What you know about gettin' and shippin' balloons Keep switchin' positions in the visitin' room
Gotta take Ex-Lax, hope you did it in time Gotta shit in your palm just ta get ta her rhyme
And you talkin' 'bout your life is this, your life is that Your life ain't shit, your life is whack
A ghetto bastard, born next to the projects
Livin' in the slums with bums, I sit and watch them
Why do I have to be like this? momma said I'm priceless
So I am all worthless, starved, and it's just for being a nice kid
Sometimes I wish I could afford a pistol then, though
Last stop to hell, I would've ended things a while ago
I ain't have jack but a black hat and napsack
Four squad stolen in cars in a blackjack
Drop that, and now you want me to rap and give?
Say somethin' positive? Well positive ain't where I lived
I lived right around a corner from west hell
Two blocks from south shit, it was in a jail cell
The sun never shone on my side of the street, see
And only once or twice a week I would speak
I walked alone, my state of mind was home sweet home
I couldn't keep a girl, they wanted kids for cause of chrome
Some life, it you ain't wear gold your style was old
And you got more juice than dope for every bottle sold
Hell no, I say there's gotta be a better way
But hey, never gamble any game that you can't play
I'm slowin' and flowin' and goin' in on and knowin' not now
How will I do it, how will I make it? I won't, that's how
Early natives related to throwns of david
Captured by some patriots, and thrown on slave ships
They stripped us naked, while they wives picked they favourite
Lives were wasted, in the hands of the hated
Driven from the garden [garden], now we starvin’ in the martyring sodom
They call it harlem, wordly problems got us at the bottom
The earth crisis, and the righteous grab their ice picks
Seekers like us for our rices, I stay in ciphers
Our live is, connected to second son of isaacs, which had a tight grip
On the heels of his brother, revealed to his mother
The elders who served the younger, words heard in thunder
Down from under, rose and fled to grow in hunger, now it’s cold in summer
To slow your slumbers, behold a number, 600, 6 and 3 score
The same as he saw, who ate his heat raw, in the time before
They climbed aboard a dinosaur, information held behind the doors
We came from the atmosphere, the physical trapped us here
Then they gave us crack and beer, in the back of the stairs
Please adapt your ears, add or subtract the years, and form the unwise
And watch the sunrise from sunset, none-slep, one flesh, one breath
I was always taught my do's and don'ts
For do's I did, and for don'ts, I said I won't
I'm from Brooklyn, a place where stars are born
Streets are shot up, apartment buildings are torn
and ripped up, stripped up, shacked up and backed up
from fiends, cause the bosses on the scene, they got it cracked up
Kids are slingin in my lobby
Little Steve and Bobby
Gettin paid but it's a life-threatening hobby Yeah, they still play hide and seek
The fiends seek for the crack, and they hide and let the cops peep
Grown folks say they should be out on their own
Before the gangs come and blow up their mom's home
Because they lifestyle is hectic, so fuckin hectic
Blaow! Blaow! Blaow! Bullets are ejected
My lifestyle was so far from well
Coulda wrote a book with a title "Age 12 and Goin through Hell" Then I realized the plan
I'm trapped in a deadly video game, with just one man
So I don't only watch my back, I watch my front
Cause it's the niggaz who front, they be pullin stunts
Back on the Ave of Lavonia and Bristol with a pistol
Stickin up Pamela and Crystal
You know your town is dangerous when you see the strangest
kid come home from doin the bid and nuthin changes
What is the meaning of CRIME (what?)
Is it Criminals Robbin Innocent Motherfuckers Everytime?
Little shorties take walks to the schoolyard
Tryin to solve the puzzles to why is life so hard
Then as soon as they reached the playground, blaow!
Shots ring off and now one of them lay down
It's so hard to escape the gunfire
I wish I could rule it out like an umpire
But it's an everlasting game, and it never cease to exist
Only the players change, so...
I don't like Rock N Roll, I don't care either. I don't go on your shitty music board and start ranting about your shitty lyrics. Why do you Rock N Roll assholes always come around on a rap fans, I'll tell you like this, if you did that to me face to face, you wouldn't have a face after I was done with you. Laugh it up all you want, I'm just saying you catch the wrong person when you say that, they won't exchange any words with you, they'll leave you seriously hurt. Rappers use them generic beats because creative beats fuck up the tone of the lyrics.
In rap music, with fans, you usually get made fun for if you like the beat. IT'S ALL LYRICS, STOP TALKING OUTTA YOUR ASS ABOUT SHIT YOU WOULDN'T KNOW ABOUT. Take it like this, I don't like lots of shit, I don't tell 'em I don't like it, why the fuck would I do that? Why the fuck are you telling me you don't like hip hop? What the fuck are you setting out to achieve? Because all you achieved is a hateful message or you can catch a bullet in the head with the wrong person.
And musicians in general don't "Make a lot of money", lol! Where have you been for the past century?
But lolololol, Eminem. Eminem is whack compared to other rappers (this goes out in my opinion, you didn't notice that this was an art full of opinions nothing set in stone)?
Now I don't mind you asking questions or some shit but you come on attack, you can meet your demise. You come from Canada, I come from a place & mindset where if you breathe wrong, you can get choked hard enough until you "Breathe right". Now you might die/you might not, either way your life is worthless here.
Check it like this, lovey dovey happy or weird shit pisses me off. If I listen to that shit, I'll probably go crazy and go on a killing spree. Now who knows who I could kill, maybe I would kill one of your family members? Hmm?
And what do you expect to be meaning in music? It all has different purposes, could be a story, could be blues/inspiration, education, to relate, entertaining with wordplay/rhymes/punchlines (like slaughterhouse below), history, messages, etc.
And I'm not even going to begin explaining you about "misogyny, racism, hate, violence, drugs, crime". That stuff holds a bigger picture where I'm not even going to begin to to talk about. Just take like this if you're going to take it "The first shall be the last and the last shall be the first".
And alpha male? lololol, nice generalization, genius! I'm not alpha male, you see if a person disses me, I don't care. But I do have a strong and sincere thing for people talking bullshit that makes me burst in a reaction of rage.
By the way, your suggestion. I'm not going to check it out. I don't listen/check out anything from people I don't respect.
Correct me if I am wrong, but discussing a genre means you are discussing it as a whole? So we can conclude we are indeed generalizing the entire spectrum of "music" that qualifies as rap into one general Genre in order to classify it.
Why do we "rock people" do it? First there are different reasons, and I am sure on a few accounts there are racism motives. However, I think most often than not it is the same way people bash pop, they simply are not happy with how it degrades the industry and lowers peoples expectations until they will put up with any form of crap. I am not the first, won't be the last... best thing you could do is get used to it. That is my advice.
You are seriously threatening, hypothetically, me over a forum? People who physically hurt other people over arguments/disputes/different views are emotionally and (arguably) intellectually compromised people, and they go to jail in most nations of this earth. It is known as assault and battery. Grow up, kid. You don't have to like me and I really couldn't care less if you respected me or not, but you could at least respect yourself enough to at least pretend that you are mature and capable of a conversation and debate. You even have the time to chose your words when you post on a forum, I don't see any drafts. Try again.
Despite what you may or may not have been taught by rap or your upbringing or whatever, resorting to violence to feel you have proved a point clearly indicates you have difficiencies in your character. Resorting to violence in this contexts means you are pathetic enough that it was the only option you had left.
As far as going crazy over listening to happy music... LOL. If happy music makes you so upset, then maybe you don't like being shown something you don't posses. A good lesson in life for you, and anyone to learn is that it is ALWAYS best to focus on what you have in your life and what you can do and not what you do not have. If happy music is all it takes to break your resolve you should really turn to eastern religions or therapy.
Canada is the second largest country in the world. I like how you get so upset over generalization and then condense 3.5 million square miles into one place and mentality.
You are a big rebel by not checking out my suggestion. I really couldn't care less. It is your loss. If you really enjoyed rap you would probably be more willing to expand your understanding of it and explore it.
Lastly, you merely served to reinforce any preconceptions I might have about people who listen to rap. Talk about self defeating. What you should have done is posted several songs/artists/cds that would at least try and prove me wrong.
Indeed, any amount of people who don't like the genre doesn't affect me in any way. It however affects them negatively as they don't get to find those gems that make the genre shine, and they will never know it.
You make assumptions about a genre you know nothing about, you site example as Lil Wayne and Eminem as reasons the genre degrades the music industry as a whole yet you know nothing of those artists whom offer intelligent, well written, socially conscious music.
You come here to bait fans of a genre you dislike which is called trolling, you offer nothing to this threads intended content.

I have heard that Kid Cudi is known as "Storm Rap". Is that true and if so are there others in that sub genre that people would reccomend?
I'm not too big on Cudi. Seems like a 1 trick pony "weed weed weed" which is cool but I don't care for the laid back sound he puts out.
HAHA its so funny how people just make up new genres for music. If you genuinly like Cudi you might like Slug (of Atmosphere), Wiz Khalifa, Wale or B.o.B
Edit: @Rockford I'm looking at the stats and it says Russia is 9th with 141,927,297 persons and Canada is 36th with 34,097,000? Has wikipedia finally lied to me?
