ATH-M50s or M-Audio Q40s? - Page 2

I have not heard the M50s.But my Q40s are made to sound like studio monitors. They are the best bass cans i've heard so far.Great highs and mids also. And with the right amp they are monsters. With my CKIII they sound fantastic. One comparison i can give is they trounced th DT770/80ohms!The Beyers would distort at high volumes and the Q40 will never distort.

Haven't heard the Q40s before , but I currently own a M50.

The M50 sounds very neutral and flat , so it's pretty suitable for studio usage.

It has pretty deep bass response , though I still think that the SRH440 has a more punch to the bass.

The mids seems to be SLIGHTLY recessed though , but the high has a gentle sparkle to it , so it doesn't sound too piercing.

I don"t know about the m50 being neutral, sounds plenty bassy to me.

for all those not afrading of EQing their headphones...I experimented some EQing with my M50 in the last two days both in foobar and my D2 portable player.  the results are fantastic...after removing the unnecessery bass hump (+-) they sound very balanced to me.  I didn't touch the highs and mids cause they sound nice to me as they are.

I'm never afraid to EQ. I had some J3's which had really shrill treble, I just used the iPod "reduce treble" EQ and it worked out fine. I still rather have more powerful EQ options like you get out of a Cowon or Sansa but this worked fine.

I've tried out the SHR750DJs.They sound very nice.I would say they sound the same as the SHR840s but with more and better bass. They need velvet pads because the pleather gets your ears hot and sweaty. And they were too sibilant for me. But i'm glad i returned them and bought a second pair of Q40s.Their dynamic and transient sound still amazes me.And when you want to hear that fantastic bass just turn them up with a nice amp.And there is nothing better that i've heard.Highs mids and bass are reproduced perfectly. No muddy or bloated bass. It's just there like your listening in the studio. The only con for some might be lack of soundstage. But when the song has it is.It is heard like it is meant to be heard.
