SOLD: Brand New (not refurbished!) RWA 240gig Super iMod with ALO TP OCC X Silver iMod Cable

I will also throw in a brand new case, like the one shown in the last picture below.  That picture shows my other, RWA-sourced Super iMod, not the one being advertised here, for illustration purposes of the case.

Included in sale package is my 2nd 240GB iMod:

  • Original box and accessories of donor 5.5 gen 80GB iPod Video as sold by Apple
  • Electronic invoice of 240GB HDD upgrade kit ($169) purchased from Apricorn.com (as recommended by RWA) with warranty
  • Electronic invoice of $250 RWA iMod conversion work with warranty
  • 1 Black RWA 240GB Super iMod with approx. 10 hours testing/burn-in time including conversion by RWA (front-face Apple protective film still in place)
  • 1 ALO TP OCC X Silver iMod LOD ($195 retail) (approx. 250 hours burn-in with my 2nd RWA iMod)
  • FREE Bonus:  Form-fitting, iPod case ($24.99 value).

In short, I was able to find an original/shrink-wrapped 5.5 Gen iPod on Ebay and invested considerable amount of money to have it converted in about two months..  In the meantime, however, I was able to buy another one from ALO.  This is now finally ready and I'd love to keep it, unfortunately, current finances do not allow me such a luxury.  The price is merely to recoup my investments, I am not making any profit on this one time sale.

I guarantee you won't find a Super iMod in this condition from ALO or anyone else as it's virtually impossible to find brand new (non-refurbished or used) donor iPods.  Everything in it is original Apple, minus the new 240GB HDD.  It is perfect in every way.

I would encourage you, if you are considering purchasing one of these, to act fast.  It took over 2 months to find, order and ship all the parts and Vinnie@RWA to do the conversion.

Price:  $775 including Priority Shipping and Paypal fee within CONUS.  ALO sells their refurbished ones with this same cable for $795 plus shipping (see link below).   Again, this is a one-time deal, I wish I could keep this for backup, as I originally intended.

BTW, on my RWA-sourced item purchased thru ALO, I did have to have the click wheel and front faceplate replaced, because the one I got for $795 did not include new ones.  I had to have these replaced at my own cost.  This is not to poke at ALO or RWA in any way, it was my mistake for not reading what "A" stock really meant.  Ken had delivered exactly what was promised.  Just putting it in perspective.  If you wanted the latest and greatest version of the iMod in NEW condition, this is it.

Please PM me with any questions or concerns.  Thanks for looking!

Couple of PMs but nobody pulled the trigger yet...nobody wants a brand new Super iMod? They don't come like this anymore :-). I may end up just keeping it after all. Anyway, thanks for looking!

wouldn't it be wiser to just buy two 160gb ipods for $450 off amazon.com?

what is the benefit of the imod version?

Excerpt below from the Red Wine Audio website:  http://www.redwineaudio.com/products/imod  Please review that page for very detailed information about this package.

The 6th and 7th gen iPod Classics have a substandard DAC designed for miniaturization vs. sound quality.  The 5.5 gen iPod is the latest gen to date that can be modified for superior audio performance, preferably using a high-quality external amp.

Please PM me if you have any other questions, this is not a discussion forum.

"Why iMod?

Even if you use the very best iPod cable with your stock iPod, you are still not avoiding the serious degradation of sound quality that occurs after the internal DAC. This degradation from the cumulative effects of the following stock components that are directly in the line-out signal path and that were NOT optimized for audiophile use:

  • The low quality stock SMT coupling caps after the internal Wolfson (before the stock opamp)
  • Opamp output stage
  • The low quality stock SMT coupling caps after the opamp output stage
  • The minuscule circuit board traces that carries the analog line-out signal
  • SMD resistors and inductors directly in the signal path
  • The signal path inside the stock iPod dock, which contains: the dock connector plug, a very cheap ribbon cable, more minuscule pcb traces, SMD resistors, and finally the line out jack."
