Victor will launch wooden headphone HP-DX700 seems like a little brother of DX1000.

News release from Victor

DX700 features a direct mount structure, that means the driver units are directory mounted on the wooden housing.
Actually, there is a chamber in the housing and the driver is installed in the chamber.
It will eliminate unnecessary resonant and brings a real wood acoustic.
The housing is made from pine wood. Also, they installed a resonator over the chamber - they call it as an acoustic lens.

DX700 will be launched around the mid of February, the price will be 65000 yen.

I have a noob question...how exactly does the wood help the sound of these headphones? or is it more for the gorgeous looks?

It depends. Some have wood resonance but some may not so.
