AirTunes: Optical vs. Analog

Hello,

I have a MacBook (computer) + Airport Express (router) + Logitech PureFi (speakers). The Airport and the Logitech are connected via a regular stereo cable. So, if I put music in my iTunes, I can listen to it in the Logitech speakers via wifi. The computer and the router have analog+digital input/output integrated, but the Logitech speakers are analog.

I have two questions.

1) If I replace the stereo cable for an optical cable, I will need to buy two adapters "Toslink to Optical mini adapter", one in each side, like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002MQGRM/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A2NK89850H0GO2

What sounds better? A stereo cable, or an optical with two adapters? In other words, do the adapters in both sides reduce the quality of the original optical?

2) Remember, the speakers are analog, the router optical. If I connect them via optical cable... will I have the same quality that I would have with a stereo cable? Will I have sound at all, or I won't hear anything?

Thanks!

You cannot connect those speakers via optical, they have no way of handling the optical signal. A Toslink to optical adapter is just going from one type of optical connection to another.

Not to mention, those speakers are so low-fidelity that even if you could connect them that way, and even if you were an ardent supporter of the impact of cables on sound, it still wouldn't make a difference. You need to upgrade your speakers!

thanks! I know that I should change the speakers... but I wanted to find out if the optical cable will sound or if it won't sound at all...
