References to songs within songs

My question is does this make a song any better?

This came about while listening to Bruce Springsteens “Thunder Road”.

Lyrics = “Roy Orbison singing For The Lonely”

Which instantly reminded me of Mariah Careys “We Belong Together”

Lyrics = “Bobby Womacks on the radio saying to me If You Think Your Lonely Now”

Any more examples to my weak list would be appreciated surprise

it's a little more exact and nice - instead of some old country singer singing on the radio, you get Roy Orbison singing "For the Lonely" and you get the time and place exactly.

I like bob dylan's sara:

Quote:
I can still hear the sounds of those Methodist bells,
I'd taken the cure and had just gotten through,
Stayin' up for days in the Chelsea Hotel,
Writin' "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" for you.

the classic big star song thirteen

Quote:
Wont you tell your dad, get off my back
Tell him what we said 'bout 'Paint It Black

my favorite new one is a the twist of born to run on Titus Andronicus' A More Perfect Union

I think several songs riff on that "I heard the news today" line from the Beatles' "A Day In The Life."
