EF2 as a bonus would give a DAC to work with as well (albeit very basic).
I tried a EF2 at a meet. It wasn't the sound signature/style that I like. It mellowed things a bit too much with both my D2000 and HD600. It might have been the choice of tubes in it (it had mullards of some flavor). Not necessarily a bad review, just not my thing, at least with the tubes it had.

...Sell your Denons for $200~ish, spend $30 on JVC RX700 which is basically a markl modded D2000 without the need of amplification. Spend the remaining $170+$300 saved on the Grado SR325i and a used Darkvoice 336i for around $200.

If you don't already have a pair of headphones, amps will suck at playing music without them.

Cheap tube amps are just that. But Head fi hype takes care of the marketing.

I've heard the JVC. Mids are too muffled for my taste. If I could get by with $30 headphones I would. The JVC isn't a Denon killer. Maybe if you set the sights a little lower. Maybe a Phiaton killer?

The Denon's midrange is far from perfect. But it's good enough. And the flaws can be addressed with EQ if you're willing to do that.
