Just done saving some money

I just got done saving money and about to use it for that purpose. Unfortunately, I am torn between 3 items which are:
Grado SR325i
AKG K701
Darkvoice 336 Classic amp

Which one do you think I should purchase first. BTW, I already have a Denon AH-D2000
Oh, and your opinions matter to me

P.S. I only have $300 saved for this

Akg 701 or Amp

If you don't have an amp I'd recommend you go ahead and get one. It will open up a lot of options for you when you look for your next pair of cans. Either that or grab the Grados (If you're itching for something different) they should run pretty well without an amp.

Depends on what amp you have currently. No point getting the AKG's if you are running your current cans from your iPod (or similar) FWIR!

I currently have the Denons and am looking at the AKGs too. Looks like they complement each other quite nicely.

Embarrassed to say, but I have a Psyko Audio 5.1 amp came with the 5.1 gaming headphones. Not sure if it is decent, but they drive my Denons just fine.
@ gregvet, I know what you mean a fun hp(denons) and a reference hp(AKG). The reason why I was considering the Grados was that they are metal, I love metal

The Denons are notoriously easy to drive, whereas the AKGs are notoriously hard (at least to drive properly), so if the Psyko amp is going to fall down anywhere it will be there. Get the AKGs and then upgrade your amp

Certainly for metal the Grados are probably a better option, and similarly easy to drive as the Denons (if anything easier) so should sound great from your current amp. Personally I would say the AKGs look 10 x nicer tho!

You won't know unless you try it. I'm guessing you're buying it online so make sure the store has a good return policy. Comfort is my main goal so my next pair of headphones will be Beyers hopefully. I can only say the comfort is excellent because I've tried them myself. I would not bother with a tube amp in 2010 but I have never heard of the amp you're using now. It's probably good enough unless they did something horribly wrong.

oh no, not metal music but metal the material. It just look solidly built imho(same reason that I bought the denons)

Is the Darkvoice 336 even a good match for the Denon? Isn't it an OTL amp (I'm not sure). Generally the OTL style tube amps aren't recommended for the Denons. A transformer style tube amp maybe, or a hybrid, but I'd be looking sold state for the Denon.

Did not know that. I really have no idea which "cheap" amp that is suitable to me. I made a thread about which amp would be better for me, but no one posted an answer

We ignored your thread? Shame.
I noticed there's an x-head amp in the for sale forum right now. Under $100 shipped. You could get that and a SR225i for your $300. Both the Grado and the Denon will be happy with that amp.

The DV336 is the wrong way if you are leaning towards a low impedance headphone system. Perhaps a Hybrid?

On that note, Why not buy used? Keep saving up and when the right headphone comes around snatch it up. The SR-325i or K701 should not run you much more than $220 second hand (maybe $180-200 for K701).

Edited:
Have you been to a meet? The florida meets are kind of lame for listening to gear (people listen at these things? i went and just socialized) but both of those headphones are usually there so you can pick your sound for yourself.

Have not been meet. Fairly new hear and still have no idea how you guys described sound(I did read the sticky though) and use that info to make good decisions. I do know what no, little, loud/boomy bass though

Forget the AKG, you'll need a serious amp to get its full potential. Go with the Grados, they'll be a good complement to your Denons.

Hybrids are a good choice for a Denon amp if the budget is low. Amps like Head-Direct/Hifiman EF1 and EF2 can usually be had at DV336 prices or less, and I don't recall seeing one single bad review about the EF1/2 synergy with the Denons, it's always good (though not much of a comparison, my old D1001 did sound great with my old EF1). EF2 as a bonus would give a DAC to work with as well (albeit very basic).
