I just ordered some Ety HF5 and I have no idea why

I was pondering how the hell I could get tips for my S4s in Europe when I figured it could be the perfect opportunity to get new phones...

So off I went to Amazon.de and ordered myself an 8GB Clip + (to go with my recently purchased 8GB Micro SD card and to be rockboxed) and checked out what they had in Etymotics since I know the tips fit as well, and added some red HF5s to my basket for about 70 euros.

I was considering ordering the Hippo VBs + Fiio5 + RE0s and maybe save up for the IE7s later but well... The HF5 and RE0s seem comparable anyway.

If the HF5s turn out to be too bass light I'll get myself a Fiio5 to balance things out from hifi headphones in the UK and maybe order the VBs in a month or so.

I still got no idea why I did this. I blame this website, just because I know it's my fault and my fault only.

Make sure to compare the stock firmware to Rockbox before just assuming it's better. If you need EQ then rockbox away.

I use ETY ER4p with my clips [v2&+] and with the great EQ rockbox has you can really fine tune them to your tastes.[rockbox is now writable for the clip v2 + fuzev2]
Obviously with a good amp you can squeeze out the last few% out of the clip but even without an amp the sound is tops.
I prefer to use an amp but also use the clip on it's own to delight in it's sheer compactness!

Maybe you bought them because you had a subconscious desire to purchase red space lasers. Pew pew!

Don't combine etymotic hf5 with fiio e5.
I used them during 1 month, and then realize that is no good. The difference is very subtle, and in my opinion the e5 makes the excellent brightness of hf5 a little muddy.

If it makes you feel any better, I just bought a pair of HF5's after careful and considered research.
