Sony Walkman NWZ-A816 vs Sansa Fuze

Hello,

I've been looking for better than mine (ipod nano 1g) portable source, heard that Sansa Fuze/Clip+ is pretty decent for its price (SQ especially), but recently my eye catched this Sony walkman one. As I seen this one is also pretty good, also, walkman series never fail to impress.

My main priority is SQ, comfort and video playback is not very important to me, but also a plus.

So I'm asking you, which one to choose? Pay 20 pounds more and get Sony, or get fuze, with maybe Fiio E5 AMP?

Thanks.

Please help me which one to choose, haven't decided yet.

The advantage of the Sansa fuze and Clip + is that you can use Micro sd cards with it.  They have a slot in the side, so you can buy cards from 1g up to 16g.  Basically you can turn a 4g player into a 20g player instantly.

sansa = clinical flat sound... sony = fun......... but sony has no lossless

Sony will play lossless, but only WAV., so you won't be able to fit very much music on it.

Sony walkman.  Although Sansa players are capable of playing lossless, sound quality is really lacking.  I would get a Sony.  Sony plays mp3 with better quality than Sansa playing lossless.  Also, please dont get a Fiio amp, they are a joke.  Don't get suckered into getting one as I think someone is marketing it on this forum(I don't know why there is a thread for it).  I would recommend a CMOY if you really need an amp.

May I ask if you've heard the Fuze, Clip, or Clip+? I always preferred the sound of the Fuze I had (until it was stolen) to my Sony a818. The Fuze had a larger sound stage and sounded more natural than the Sony. On flat eq, the Fuze wins hands down imo. However the Sony players have a great eq so if you like that type of stuff I would go with that. Another thing going for the Fuze is Rockbox which gives gapless playback, proper eq, and other nice things you can see here: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/WhyRockbox

Even w/RockBox for the Sansa's, I prefer the UI and SQ of the Sony DAP's.

I think it's up to preference really for the most part although I haven't heard most of the Sony players. I've only had the A818 which was supposed to be decent but no idea compared to the newer ones. I liked the Sony but it didn't support FLAC and I had some issues with tagging. The player having it be on hibernate instead of fully of unless you didn't turn it on for 24 hours was quite nice and starts up much faster.

I like the fuze better since I own it still mostly for decent SQ, microSDHC slot (which the Sony does not have) and the rockbox settings.

Rockbox is a significant improvement over both UI's even though it doesn't support album art in the tags. One thing that Sony has yet to do is get decent playlist support. That is one of the major flaws that they still haven't fixed.

I agree, as well as the ability to delete songs directly off of the device, as I hate having to hook my DAP's up to a comp to delete songs I don't like.
