Norah Jones - OMG

Just got back from seeing Norah Jones at Stubb's BBQ in Austin. We all know she can sing, but she is way better in person. Her vocals blew me away. This place is an outdoor, standing only venue, so it was much different than where she normally plays and you could tell she was having a great time not being in a concert hall. Her new band rocks! If you get a chance to see her, it is definitely worth it.

I checked her tour dates this morning, damn it she's not coming to Australia any soon.

I'd love to see her in an intimate venue like the one you describe in Austin. When she came thru the northeast a few months ago, she played @the local casino to the tune of $150/ticket - no thanks. The next night, she played MSG - also expensive, & too big a venue - no thanks. In June she is scheduled to play a free outdoor concert in Brooklyn. Crazy disparity - no?

All the good jazz artists rarely come to Australia.

norah rocks. multi-instrumentalist, good voice, writes songs for herself, obviously intelligent, not bad looking. she's got it all. i certainly enjoy her music and would like to see her playing live one day.

about the new album, she consider her new album to be the best and there is obvious progression, but i always come back to her first album, which i can listen to on a regular basis. a new album is great on first few listenings, but wears out rather quickly.

These are two of my most listened too I guess. The one thing about an intimate setting is that you get a sense of who the artist is I suppose. I could set and look at Diana Krall all day long I think.
Talent and legs to go with it, LOL. Sorry if that offends anyone but she is a doll. Too bad she married Elvis Costello.

Surprisingly enough, the local library has every one of her albums. So if I were to pick one up as an introduction, would you say the first is the one to go with?

yes, i would go with the first one, but your mileage may vary. by progress in albums i meant she has moved from jazz/pop in first album through country/pop until the last album, which has the most pop character in my opinion. but all her albums are more-less relaxed or easy sounding (i can't think of right word, my english is not perfect ).

Anyone who's heard Alicia Keys live is sorely disappointed, I'm afraid. In contrast, both Nora's & Diana's vocals sound great live.

Which music style you prefer is another matter.

Norah jones is great. though katie melua gives her a run for the money.

 

both are top grade artists

Personally, I prefer Alicia Keys than Norah Jones. Maybe my taste suits Alicia more. But my most favorite female vocal is Leslie Mills.
