Cowon D2+ line out to amp volume??

I've seen the Cowon D2/D2+ used in many rigs on head-fi with and without an amp. If used with an amp, what volume level are you guys using?

I have my FiiO E5 plugged in with the D2+ ~25.

I am not sure what are the final conclusions about this, but the recommended volume for the D2 (and every other player I think) when amped is the max...means 50. when the volume is maxed the output is the closest to a "line level" output which is the standart and best output for amping. others will correct me if i am wrong.

Hmm, thanks, I was thinking along that same line. (no pun intended)

by the way, I based my answer on many threads here at head fi and also at Iaudiophile.net forums you can search for them if you want. there were also many analysing in those threads showing that at max volume level the D2 gets closest to 0 db output...meaning - "line level".
let's see what others have to comment about this, since I don't wnat to take 100% responsibility over this

I was using 49 when I still had my D2.

now I recall that there was a debate over 49 or 50...don't remember what was the end of it.
1audioz...what headphones do you use or want to use with it?

I use 49 with flat EQ when using it in my car or when using a portable amp.

Was there a debate about them? That was definitely after I got my D2 or I just didn't pay attention. You should let your ears decide in the end however whichever you want.

perhaps it was on the Iaudiophile forums...
the "problem" is that I don't really think that someone will really notice the difference between 49 and 50 when hooking up to an external amp,so people like to know what is scientificaly the closest measurements to a line level output.

At the moment, I use my AD700 cans while I'm at home and my CK7 while I'm on the go.
So far, I've found that vol 50 + FiiO E5 works quite well.

Max will probably work fine.

The problem is, some players can output more volume than your standard line level signal. For example, the Sansa clip v1 can do over 0 db. This is clearly visible when using rockbox.

Backing it off a few notches is a way of avoiding sending to high of a signal into your amp. That's assuming that max is too high. It might not be the case. You'd have to either measure the output or use rockbox to see.
