FS: AKAI-ASE40 Orthodynamic headphone [worldwide]

The AKAI ASE40 has a nice large orthodynamic driver of the kind that Fostex used to make (see picture below). It sounds good too, and it is a very rare headphone. The condition is good, except that on one side the forks are attached by screws (repair by previous owner). It has been tuned by dbel84, so it is not exactly stock.

The sound of the Akai is according to dbel84 (who tuned it) similar to a Fostex T10, which is similar to the T50. ( I do not have any other vintage Fostex orthodynamics so I cant make a comparison myself.)

What a sweet looking pair of orthos - gorgeous. How do they sound as compared to other well respected orthos such as properly damped Yamahas?

Indeed, this is certainly art.

The Akai ASE-40 was around from approximately the years 1977-1982.
It is a large driver orthodynamic with a unique style driver to Akai.

I think it was a fair question, since the AKAI is not well-known.

I have no other Fostex orthodynamics so I can't tell from my own experience how the Akai compares to a vintage Fostex. But the sound of the Akai is according to dbel84 (who tuned it) similar to a Fostex T10, which is similar to the T50.
