Offered is the famous Sony TA-4650 35W V-FET Stereo Integrated Amplifier, produced from 1974 to 1978.
V-Fet is the acronym for vertical type field effect power transistors, which is used in the TA-4650 amplifier. A V-Fet has extremely low output impedance and excellent high power capability, delivering an output current proportional to input voltages and assuring virtually distortion free amplification. Use of the V-Fets in the power output stage results in quality reproduction.
My unit works properly and is in near excellent cosmetic condition. It is completely original. It is rated at 35 watts per channel at 8 ohms using vertical FET's or V-FET'S, but likely has a bit more wattage per channel. It can handle 4-ohms, but truly seems to prefer 8-ohm speakers. There are 2 phono inputs (low power V-Fets in the phono section too), a tuner input and 2 aux inputs. Plus a headphone jack and jacks for an external adapter and a tape selector switch for dubbing tapes. It has bass, treble and balance controls and a high and low filter. There is a loudness feature and A and B speaker terminals. The faceplate is very nice brushed aluminum, metal sides, and machined aluminum knobs, overall this is a vintage quality piece that retailed for $400 back in the day.
I also have the original owner's manual. Buyer to pay shipping. Asking: $185.
The sound is very smooth as it has pure analog circuitry. V-Fets are commonly referred to as warm, musical and offering a very linear tube like sound, which is pleasant to the ear. It is advisable never to put a load on the output transistors without having speakers connected. The speaker connectors are the simplest and, most importantly, most reliable of the three TA V-Fet amps Sony made.
