Well maybe because you aren't supposed to be taking headphones apart!!

And just coming here and just rant about it won't help either...

sigh thanks for your useless input on the matter.

I've posted some line on this subject in the "grado mod thread"...

I've tried hard to take them apart... nothing worked. I managed to scrap off some of the glue and made some test :
- it doesn't melt with heat, whatever the temperature. It's a dry material which just turn black ...
- it doesn't react to the chemical product I tried on it (goo gone, acetone..)

I end up cutting short the original cable (which is double wired by the way) and soldered my cable on it. It works very well this way.

Sorry but I think that's the only way you can have them recabled.

Not all HF-2 are the same. Some people had them with the standard hot glue.

Don't know if it's the case with HF-2s but at least with SR-325i the metal cups act like heat sinks. Therefore you need quite some heat. You could also try breaking the glue by using some tapered tool...

Could try the kind of product you use when you try to remove cement/epoxy under floor tiles...
