Hey all,
Well, I finally got to listen to HD800 yesterday and I really do want the thing.
And with a decent tax return cheque on its way to me I think I'll be purchasing it very soon... this means that I'm gonna eventually have to let some of my current headphones go. However, nothing is 100% confirmed so I thought I'd do some interest checking first over here. My RS1 has a very distinct sound so it stays in the mix, but my HD650 and K701 will most likely have to go. Here's a description on the two items:
1) Sennheiser HD650: I've owned this headphone for about a year now, and it was bought at a retail store here in Toronto. It's the updated Silver driver version. The headphones, as I see it, is pretty much in flawless condition. There's no chips on the headband, no dents in the grills, no loose drivers, or any of the common faults found with used HD650's. Cables are in perfect shape. The pads are naturally slightly worn, but that's expected and I have a feeling if you choose to wash these it'll be good as new again. I have the original inner and outer box, but I've seem to have misplaced the manual that came with it (not like you need it anyway!). And sorry, but I really like the 1/4 to 1/8 adaptor so I'm keeping it. The store that I bought it from (Beamecho) is no longer in business, but I still have the receipt which will still work should you need to make any warranty claims with Sennheiser. I'm looking for SOLD, picked up locally here in Markham/Toronto area. For now I'd like to keep this local, but may extent the offer to elsewhere later pending how the local interest is like.
2) Well used AKG K701: Yeah, I knew I would kill the resale value of these when I modded the headband and now I'm paying for it, but my loss is your gain for those that don't care about it. These are as stated, well used, with couple changes from the stock version. As I mentioned earlier, I've modded the headband to remove those god awful bumps, which IMO no human is going to find comfortable. The only issue is with the cosmetics on the bottom of the headband, but you're not gonna be seeing much of it anyway, right?
And if you choose to, there's plenty of ways to cover it too (refinish the leather, add additional padding, etc). The second "mod" is that the thin plastic strip in the headband mechanism have been cut off. This allows for more flexible positioning for the headband on your head and reduces the tension it puts on the top of your head compared to stock. The headband still stays on the railings well and should be fine as long as you remain careful with how you use the headband. I assure you both of these mods greatly improve overall comfort compared to stock configuration. The pads are also quite worn now, but as with HD650 I think washing it should be able to revive it. Other than that, I can assure you that cosmetically and functionally flawless, with easily over 500 hours on it (saving you from its ridiculous burn in time).
Here are some of the pictures of the headband mod here: Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio - K_19's Album: AKG K701 Tumor Surgery
I still have the original box, as well as the included headphone stand and the 1/4 to 1/8 adaptor. I'm the third owner of this and I've got no receipt, but it's well past its warranty period anyway. Anyways, due to all these factors, I'm willing to let these go for SOLD. Granted, there are mods and flaws here and there, but I don't recall seeing another working K701 for this cheap. It's a perfect opportunity for you to give this headphone a try at a very cheap price.
I've got perfect feedback here on Head-fi, ebay, and on redflagdeals and will gladly supply them on request. I can provide more pictures if you need them as well so PM me if you need them. And PM me for any other questions you may have, but please do remember that this offer is local for now; no inquiries about international or outer-GTA sale, please (for now). I live near Markham/North York border so I can meet somewhere around this area, and can travel as far as Finch Station.
Thanks for reading!
