Line Out

Guys --

Been rocking the D2 and D2+ for a few years. Paired mostly with UE's (10's), Senns (8's) and others.

Looking for a player (don't give a crup about video...only music here) that offers similar if not better quality of sound with a "line out" option to take advantage of the iBasso T3 thats been sitting in my drawer for the last few months.

I realize that the phrase "quality of sound" is a pretty much useless term, as it is open to so much interpretation, but be real.

Cowan's sound and ability to change via JetEffect appeal to me...but that doesn't mean I am a one trick pony.

Suggestions...? (I am a Mac user)

Have a great day!

I was going to say have a look at the s:flo2 or T51 but noticed you are a Mac user which is a no go for the player at the moment, sadly. Perhaps still research it, you never know...
The only other player that jumps into my head with a proper LO would be an iMod, or you could try and argue a LOD and iPod is as well... I think quite unsuccessfully.
I'm sure other members will be able to come up with a more substantial list, but it's all I've got.
Good luck.

iPods and LoDs sound great. They aren't as good as iMods/s:flo2 but they're up there in SQ and sound better the better the amp gets. Some iPods sound better than others though... but a lot of people say they sound "tinny" or they don't have enough weight to the music.

Young Spade, would you say the Clip+/amp or iPod/LOD/amp sounds better of the two? I'm just wondering how the Clip+ sounds when you attach an amp via HP out rather than line out...thanks!

First off, the iPod LoD doesn't offer a true line out, more like a glorified headphone out. It's better than the HO but less than the iMod.

Anyway...I would personally use a clip and amp that. The sound quality from the Clip is amazing. Very detailed and very flat, but compared to the s:flo2 lacks in soundstage and overall power.

Clip > iPods.

Gotcha...I'll be using with IEMs, so I probably don't need a ton of power, and if the Clip+ by itself is enough, I'll probably just go with that...I have a bunch of iPods, so it's basically a choice of buying a LOD or a Clip+, trying to figure out what's the better value...

Ah, alright cool. Well I'll say to get the Clip and A/B it with your ipods and see how it holds up. IMO it's a great player but needs a little more power to sound its best. You could always just buy the dock to mini plug for the ipods and buy a nice mini to mini... that way you could use it with the dock from the ipods and the Clip+

The S:Flo2 is really amazing in SQ.

I also have a t3. I use S:Flo2's LO and it sounds really really good!

I can clearly hear the headstage opening up, and the detail of the music and the timber of wooden instruments as well as Piano. I absolutely adore the S;flo2 LO.

IT took my 3 tries to get it right though. So,.. I think this product will be highly dependent on luck, and patience.

Oh, very nice, definitely didn't think of that...only place I know that has that is iBasso, but I'll look around and see if some other company has them...I'm definitely going to need the mini-mini anyway, so that's a good option...

I'll probably end up with an iBasso amp, actually, so that could definitely work...good call, thanks!

Cool. But FYI..... I would seriously hold out on an amp until you can get a really good one... at least in the 250+ range. I got the T4 when it came out and used it with my Triples out of my 4G Nano and I got minimal results.

Although portable amps are one of the worst bang for buck sound quality enhancements (IMO along with cables), you should get a good one or you might be left disappointed.

Ah...fair enough...well, I think my first choice for an amp is the D4 Mamba, which I've heard is a great amp for the money. Otherwise, I'm looking at the Mini3 and Headstage Arrow if I decide not to get a DAC right now...

[shrug] I think using the line out of my 2009 iPod Classic to my Headstage Arrow sounds pretty damn good... I know Apple is hated around here, but the 2009 Classic isn't the abomination that many claim (& likely w/out having heard it before decrying it.....).

I don't think many people hate iPods, they just don't like the "total package" that you get when you buy one. The players are priced a little high for the SQ they give, no custom equalizer, and being forced to use iTunes is a major turnoff for many people.

Forgive...but what does A/B mean?
