How did you cut the dimples and to what depth and diameter ?

Peete.
The dimples were drilled using a $90 specialty router bit with "cut back" edges filed onto it. I didn't really measure for depth at all. I just went a little at a time, and took measurements along the way, until each hole measured 1.25" across. Since the router bit was cone shaped already, this also meant the depth was pre-determined by it's shape, and consistent from hole to hole as long as I kept each hole's width the same. I can post pics of the bit on Sunday, once my trip is over.

The fleeting thought of making these and selling them crossed my mind .... Until I found out how difficult it is to "machine" acrylic to precise tolerances. Bit gets hot, bad things happen ... Bit too fast, bad things happen ... Wrong bit, bad things happen .... ect, ect ...

Clamping while working is a MUST !!! If it moves even a fraction of an inch while sawing or drilling, it cracks.

I want to make another one, but in black acrylic with Ebony wood veneer strips on the shelf edges.

Wow ! Black colored acrylic is expensive. Does anyone have any sources for more reasonably priced colored acrylic ?
