Is Audio Quality Lost from PC to Reciever to Headphones?

I am buying the AKG 702s this week, and I am wondering, is audio quality lost when going from Computer sound card > receiver > headphones (plugged into 1/4" jack on the receiver)?

What is the best way to go between the soundcard and receiver for the best quality?

The best connection would be digital S/PDIF, either coaxial or optical (optical preferred). With this setup, absolutely nothing is lost on the way from the sound card to the receiver.

Looks like you are on the right track. I'd use optical since there is no electrical connection and ground loop problems to worry about.

EDIT: I just noticed that this is a really old thread.  So hopefully you already have it working, and there is no need for this information.
