Sony D-151, anyone knows, comments?

Hi,

I got an old Sony D-151 (from around 1995 probably).

It has no antiskip, a 1 BIT DAC, a line out.

Sound is OK to me. Unfortunately I have no amp to test the line out. Headphone out seems a bit "slow" to me. Music is sometimes a bit dull and lifeless.

Any one can comment on it? How would it compare soundwise to newer Panasonic or Sony units? I don't have access to such a unit to perform a/b comparison.

Just curious,

P.

Hiya...

If hierachy is correct, that CDP is from 1993 (I bought a D-121 then)... and, if its anything like the 121, its a bit screechy when you turn the volume up, but heavy (slow?!) when volume is down low, and the bass control is on...

not a BAD CDP, but.. definetly better out there

Saying that... the 151, could easily have had uprated parts in, and sound completely different to the 121?!?!?

Duncan,

thanks for the answer. I have no clue of what differences could exist between the 121 and the 151.

I always listen at low volume and with bass off. But yes, the "slow" feeling could come from exagerated bass or rather weak midrange.

I am wondering how much upgrade it would feel to get a newer unit with amp.

I guess I will first build or buy a xmoy and test it on the 151.
