S/PDIF from Squeezebox

How good is the S/PDIF output of the squeezeboxes?
Has anyone compared it to any soundcards or USB to SPDIF converters?

It's just as good on the Squeezebox 2 and later (earlier models had smaller memory buffers and didn't deal too well with lossless formats). The only issue is they don't seem to support 24/96 audio, although that might just be a limitation in SqueezeCenter with ALAC files.

Squeesebox (any model) as S/PDIF source. Opinions?

I use a DUET and have tried all the outputs and use the optical exclusively, works best for me in my setup.
