Amp choice for Senn HD-25-1 + iPod

I am a mac user, so for ease of use/interface/seamlessness etc, I am stuck with iPod.

I don't like in-ear phones, and love my Sennheiser HD-25s.

I was wondering what some Amp recommendations for these phones would be.

I would probably end up using it with a new iPod Touch as I heard their sound is decent compared to the others, although I would rather get a Nano if the sound quality hit isn't significant.

Portability is key, but a good match for the HD-25 is the most important.

How much are you willing to spend on the amp? And are you going to put some money towards a LoD as well?

The HD-25 scales very well, the choice is really up to your budget. As Young Spade suggested, find a proper Line-Out-Dock solution first (countless available, search the site for LOD), then select an amp that matches your needs. If you want better hints you could tell us about
- your budget
- preferred size
- features wanted (crossfeed, gain, sound adjustment)
- preferred sound signature

$100-200

footprint around the size of iPod Touch

no particular features

I listen to all types of music, but it's weighted more on beat based stuff like hip hop, electronic, etc.

Alright well I suggest spending only a little on a LoD and more for the amp, as that's where you're gonna get the biggest boost in sound.
If you want I know someone here (I think Punnisher but I could be wrong) makes low profile LoDs which are (from what I see) good quality and very, very small for iPods/Amps stacked up.

For amps.... you can spend under 50 and go the Fiio route (I personally don't think you should go this way)
You can also check out iBasso. They make a lot of solid low, mid entry level amps that range from 100 to 240. I suggest you check that site out and read up on some of those amps if you like those.
Of course there are other amps out there in this price range but A) I don't know a lot about amps in that range other than iBasso and B) That's off the top of my head

Oh, and you should definitely check out the massive multi amp reviews over in the portable amp section.

Goood luck Oh and if you need anything, feel free to PM me, I'd be happy to help (I could get a little more in depth and do some searching for you if you'd like )

If you want to spend $150. I wouldnt bother spending more than $20 on an LOD. They really add very little to the sound. You big change comes from not using the headphone jack, not from the piece of wire you use to bypass it. Same with any cord you choose to use. I wasted $30 on Cardas cable. A/B'd it back and forth with a five buck radioshack cable, no difference. Get the best amp you can, the LOD is almost an afterthought.

Well there's not going to be a difference between a 30 dollar and a 5 dollar cable. It also depends on how "good" your other equipment in your system is as well. Buying a 175 dollar ALO cable isn't going to make a 200 dollar system sound a lot better.
