ATH-W1000X Appreciation Thread! - Page 117

I use a m2tech young/palmer dac and use my w1000x only at home. I don't know how to describe the sound of m2tech but in my first opinion it is a very neutral sounding dac. Not very warm nor super clean.
So first reactions here:
Had-audiolab
Schiit Vali ( very cheap), in my budget i think i can better buy a valhalla or lyr.
More tips welcome!

You won't want the Valhalla with a low impedance headphone. Lyr is for headphones that need power. I would suggest asgard

I found the W5000 to be too slow and lush for me, but I may not have the ideal amp for them when I had it.  I may buy them again just to have in the collection.

But but but, the vali sounded very good with the w1000x, YES there was a small amount of audible noise during quiet passages. Non the less it still sounded very nice together the pair of them. If your dac has a gain setting it would be best set it to high, thats what I did when I used the NFB10ES2 line out, increased the singal coming out of there to reduce the amping the vali had to do, it kept noise down

I've read that that W5000 went well classical music, strings especially. Suits my musical tastes, but I do think bass is important in classical music, but I suppose I'll have to buy it to really know whether I like it or not. It costs £500-600 through pricejapan which isn't bad when compared UK prices... But now I don't think if I'll ever take the jump unless prices come down much further - there are other headphones which I could put my money to at that price.

Changed back to buying the W1000X at the last minute. Apparently mine's been shipped today, so not long to go till it reaches the suburbs of SW London from Tokyo.

I also found a good deal on HD650s so didn't miss the opportunity to get them. Listening to them now, and really liking them - not as analytical and realistic as the T1. However after only burning them in for a few hours, I like the tone and definitely more relaxing to listen to which I really appreciate when working.

Think I might have gone a bit overboard with my budget this month though... dammit

would appreciate it if you stuck around the thread long enough to leave comparison of the two

Sure thing Docta - will post a few thought once I've had a good listen to the two.

*quick message to thread members who helped me on w1000x queries - just discovered what that green thumbs up icon is for so I somewhat belatedly went back used it.  cheers all

Hope you're listening to them now :) May I ask what earpads you'll be using?

My pair have landed in the UK according to the EMS tracker - so getting closer. I have a pair of hifiman velours waiting for them. I wonder if the original W1000X are as bad as people are saying...

Ha I suppose its failings are part of the charm of AT headphones. :)

Now that I think about it, changing pads of my old AD700X never even crossed my mind - it may have gone some way to address the comfort and to a certain degree, the fit issues. I've since given them away to my lil' sis and she's enjoying them as much as I did. First intro to decent headphones, just like they were for me.
