Yeaper, there is a fellow on the Little dot MKVI thread who also owns a balanced W1000x and he uses it with a balanced tube

Finally had some quality time with my W1000X's.
And did some comparing with the other headphones on hand:
AKG K702 65th Ann.
Grado RS1
Grado 125
Denon D2000
Sennheiser HD650 with silver cables and wood cups (these are now closed back)

I just realized that the pads in the W1000X's aren't stock. My ears fit inside and the bass is a bit better than I can remember with the W1000's I used to have.

Sorry guys, but my favorites are still the AKG's. Detail, balance between high, mid and low, soundstage and comfort are still my favorite.

Close second are the W1000X's. Being the best closed back I've heard.
I think for long listening sessions these are the least fatiguing.
Great balance also, but missing a little openess.

The Grados are good, detailed and very open, but just not comfortable for long time listening.

The D2000's are just too bass heavy, very tiring.

The Sennhrisers are real good too, but fit too tight and is missing the balance.

Anyone agree?

I actually own the D2000, but mine's... FAR from stock. Just goes to show, though how good the W1000x is :3

but yea I prefer my HE 4 to everything i own, but when I'm not at home I NEED closed cans so that's why I own two >.>

Currently thinking of replacing my ATH-A900X (With Hifiman Velour) with the ATH-W1000X.

Anyone here directly compare the two?

Or think they made a mistake replacing their A900Xs with the W1000Xs?

Last night I ordered the W1000X, are there any ear pads that I can put on the W1000X that are better then the stock pads?

Or are the stock pads just as good as any other ear pads?

I upgraded from the ATH-A900 (not the X) to ATH-W1000X and the main improvements are with better bass slam and sweeter mids.  The bass on stock W1000X was a little slower than the A900's though, with some slight decay issues where the some faster drum passages melded into each other, but some of the damping mods described here in head-fi helps with that.  I think it's a worthwhile upgrade if you enjoy the AT sound.

Ugh, my pair has driver issues. On the off chance, would anyone happen to have a spare?

The L3000 pads remove some decay and balanced out the sound

the j$ pads also remove some decay but boost the bass and sub bass

Cool, might order some of those pads (depending on price).

L3000 pads a little pricey at around $110 shipped from Japan (bought mine from audiocubes2.com), but they're some of the nicer leather pads I've seen for headphones.

That they are, j$ money are harder to find, and cost about $50 used. Build quality on them is a mixed bag, some are top notch others not so much

My W1000Xs arrived a hour ago, they do sound nice, better then my A900Xs.

It looks like there are some generic (Chinese) headphones cases selling on eBay for $25 (220X220X120), I'm thinking of getting one of those cases for the W1000X, unless someone knows of something better?

I don't let us know how they work out, are the padded inside? I atm carry my headphones in a Beyer Dyanmic Soft Case that I've Carved out, then I stick that inside yet another SOft throw over bag. I need to invest in a proper Book Bag so I can stick my cans inside a Bigger Hard Case with a soft padded inside

Oh my w1000x might be getting dual 3pin XLR pig tails :D [since I'm getting my HE 4 fitted with a Wood Houseing and a new cable, I figured it might be wise to have both my HE 4 and W1000x pig tailed so I only  have to pay for one cable. Still it should make the more portable friendly as well

Is the seller trustelmarket?

I have bought 5 of those over some time, they held my Q701, K550 and now my W1000X.
Its soft inside with a little pouch for the cable.
Call me nuts, but I put the W1000X in a velvet pouch before putting them in the case.

So, what amp/dac you guys use with the wonderful W1000X?
