ATH-W1000X Appreciation Thread! - Page 105

I tried, guys. I swear I did. I've had the cans for the past several day and I tried a lot to get through my pain points with it and I just couldn't. Although it is just a beautiful headphone, I couldn't overcome the lack of support, lack of seal, uncomfortable pads, and large amounts of noise leak. They're in a box being shipped back as we speak. I loved the signature at times, but I just can't ignore the fit and stability issues of winged headband on any AT can anymore. Maybe you can say I didn't give it time or didn't warp the hell out of the band enough, but I've had more than enough experience with the winged bands from other AT cans that I knew right away no compromise I could make with it would make me happy.

So I'm back to looking for another very nice set of closed cans for home use. Suppose I will set my sights back on the D5000 (although I know it leaks even more than the W1000X) and Alpha Dogs. Coincidentally, reviews for the Focal Spirit Pro and Classics came out today and they were good enough to put on the WoF, which is impressive. We'll see how it goes, I suppose.

It's sounding pretty great when I push on the cups slightly and forcefully seal the pads, but that isn't a practical work around. I'm going to give it a couple more days to see if it settles, but it's not looking great.

This is really frustrating because I love the AT signatures, but have always had fit problems. The amount of work I put into the AD700 to get them to fit right was worth it because they were cheap and it was fun. Considering the price of this can, I'm not as enthusiastic about modifying it.

I had the same issue, keep working at the head band and the L3000 Pads help, the J$ money pads are also nice, they give teh W1000x a bit more of a v shape sound, but not to wanky

Can't do anything about it now as they are on their way back already. I like tinkering as much as the next guy, but I feel like, for the price, I just expect more at this point. I mean if you knew how many AT bands I've warped the hell out of, or shortened, or fabricated from scratch, I just don't have the drive to do it again with this pair. In all honesty, I should have predicted this was going to be the case here. Sucks it didn't work out.

Blah, the W1000X is way too sensitive for my amp. I thought I could deal with the hum, but now I'm not too sure.

I'm not really a fan of the treble recession too...these might be headed out :( I kind of don't want to get rid of them because they're so pretty, but I think I want something with more mids and lower treble. I love these with anything that requires more bass than the ZMF though.

How much does Purrin's mod help with this?

Recession? These have a more forward treble than most headphones, what do you mean by "recession" may I ask what pads your using as well as if your getting a good seal?

I would maybe try these, but I just can't stand that awful headband design. Tried the AD900x and hated it. They are absolutley gorgeous cans though.

I actually LIKED the AD and A900x Headbands, they both had a nice GRIP, the W1000x isn't as grippy [and more comfy for that reason] but I had issues getting seal for the longest time

I'm still uncomfortable with people wearing my W1000x... always worried it's going to mess up my Fit xD [so far it hasn't thankfully]

Between 5 and 7kHz. The combination of their relative dip then steep climb in treble fatigues me much quicker than almost any other headphone I've tried. I hate to use graphs as reference, but the Inner Fidelity graph is basically what I'm hearing.
