I think if you listen to a lot of bass heavy music, especially faster pace bass heavy music, the Denon D7k and D5k would be better because they have a lot of bass quantity and quality.  I just feel the bass in the D7k bleeds and overwhelms the lower mids a little too much.

I own a Cocobolo Wood Back D2k [which might as well be a D5k]

And I like both my D2k and my W1000x.

How would you lads compare the bass to the D5K and D7K?

Because currently I know a guy who's selling me some fully Lawton modded D7000s for around 1100$ and they look pretty flawless.

Not sure about the price, but isn't that alright? I've always wanted to try the D7000s, not sure if jumping straight into modded ones are the smartest thing to do though.

The W1000x sells for just around 379$, so it's a tough choice. Will I get overall more value out of just getting the W1000x? 1100$ is a LOT, it's more than what I paid for my Woo Audio WA6-SE.

I've heard that the th600 is almost identical sonics wise as the la7000, I've seen it posted a lot on the th600 thread.

The w1000x will definitely have a weaker bass than the lcd2 and th600 from memory. The w1000x at that price is very tempting and great bang for the buck for sure. Almost enough to tempt me to get it, but I'm going to attempt to get a w3000anv in a month or two.

I didn't like the TH-600, it was very harsh on my ears. It sounded, kind of bright, it was basically piercing to my eardrums.

I've heard from a friend who has the TH-900 and the stock D7000 that he likes the D7000 more, the bass is better and it's darker.

If the mod ruins that, then it's kind of pointless.

I've heard great things about the W3000ANV, but arn't they very hard to get a hold of?

I guess it depends on how you like your headphones, I like brighter drier headphones, and as it stands the D2k with just a wood back is too... loose for me

I even modded some of the mid bass hump out of my W1000x, still I like both my D2k and my W1000x

well, my new asgard 2 arrived today...... faulty!

right channel stuck on hi gain, brilliant, so heading back.

from what little listening i could do it was hardly  much of a step up from my dx50 direct tbh, jeez that player really is pretty damn good on the new firmware.

I have been close to listing my ATH W1000x for sale a couple of times now after picking up a pair just before Christmas. I have also have HD650's and Beyer T1's. The w100x's just didn't seem to gel with me so they have not had much head time. However over the last couple of weeks I have had them plugged into my dacs head out whilst listening to my other cans via my headphone amp. I am really please to say the ATH W1000X have really benefited from burning in. Sonics seam to have improved across the board. I think I will hang on to them for the time being.

My only grumble is my ears don't quiet fit inside the pads, can anybody here recommend replacement pads with a larger interior openings/cups which might fit my ears a little better.

Cheers

Jamie

Yeap go with J$ money pads for a touch more bass, or L3000 Pads for a touch less bass and better mids. Both have your ears nicely inside, the J$ are cheaper but harder to fine, the L3000 are $100 new

I'm also going to try Stock D2k pads as well, when my D2k get's back with Lawton Pads

Ouch, that sucks.  Thankfully, Schitt has pretty good customer service so I'm sure they'll take care of you.

The Hifiman pleather pads have been working for me to great effect and I have rather big ears.
They are the cheapest and easy to get, plus you can adjust their depth by removing the included foam rings.

The decent DAC is a good thing too wink.gif
I mean it's an extra 50 but if a USB DAC is all you need, people say it's pretty good (I think so too)
