Rining last about a 1min with first plug in, the background is acceptably noisy. During quiet passages you can hear a faint hum. with music ofc there's nothing at all. But the pairing is VERY GOOD, so much so that the ringing and noise are NOT an issue once you start playing music :D

And yes the Vali scales very nice with Dacs, so for some one who sank ALL his money into a Solid State, the $137 Vali is a steal!

That's great news, I guess the only other contestant would be the little dot 1+ at a similar price point. Got to find a way to audition the LD 1+ with the W1000x and my Grado SR80i.

True, although I have doubts as to the LD1+ having the transparency the Vali has, the LD1+ can roll tubes so it may have a more tubey sound... I rolled a good number of tubes into my old Hybrids, and even the NOS RCA clear tops I had [VERY bright clean tubes] didn't sound as nice as the Vali's little tubes!

How ever, the LD1+ should b much quieter for the w1000x, as it has an adjustable gain option. So if the Vali's noise get's to you the LD1+ would be another great one to use. Plus if you want the joy of rolling TUbes, I'd say the LD1+ would be a great intro tube for tube rolling!

Thinking of replacing my ATH-A900X with the ATH-W1000X.

Anyone ever directly compare the two headphones?

I have and there is NO comparison…  Sound quality all across the board W1000X wins by FAR.

I guess I should have posted these here in addition to the LD MKVI+ thread.

Lawton Audio did mine for $317 total.  10ft of their Copper One cable with a 4-pin XLR was $298, and return shipping was $19.

They look amazing and they sound amazing.  Should have went balanced sooner.  Now it's time to do something about the stock pads.

*slaps in the face*

DUDE ur still using the STOCK pads... those things sound horrific xD, Get your self some L3000 or J$ :3 and good to hear they sound better balanced :D although, you ought to have gone with Brian at BTG he can build an equally beautiful cable for a Third of the price, granted he's not using MAGICAL COPPER FROZEN COPPER, but he uses some high quality 8strand OCC copper in his cables. And he quoted me $139 for a 4foot balanced with a Nerutick 4pin Xlr :O

Either way, GET UR SELF SOME PADS xD, and have you modded it yet :O, also I hate to say this too but the w1000x sounds HEAVENLY se out of the Schiit vali xD

Meaning I won't be recableing mine, Till I get my balanced RSA sr71B for my portable rig ;x

I'm leaning towards the L3000s.  Still doing some looking around though.

BTG was one of the places I looked at.  I'm sure he does good work, but some of his workbench pictures on Facebook didn't give me the warm and fuzzies.

I don't plan on modding it.  The recable and pads will be about it.

I like the L3000 pads a lot.  Softer than my W3000ANV pads' leather.  They are a bit shallower than the stock pleather pads, but haven't been an issue for me, and my ears stick out a little too.

Has anyone tried a silver recable for this can?

Silver could make the highs more shiny, I would actually prefer going for something that would make it a bit darker :) (or may be it is just my source that is bright!).
