Too much upper mids, not enoug low mids and lacking in the depth and air of the DT 880... DANG IT... welp that's why I own the dt 880 there are some things it just DOES better than the w1000x sadly

ALthough honestly it is more the Amp I'm using than it is the headphone. My pb1 is REALLY upper mid BOOSTY [Bootsy tee hee] anyways. More of a reason for me to grab a new amp soon ish :3 :O I had a brillant idea just now :O me gusta good ideas... maybe DITCH getting the nvm

yea I need a new amp! Pb1 you have FALLEN SHORT. I actually like my w1000x [alot] through my NFB10ES2. When i first got the 10es2 I hated it with the w1000x. But after a week with nothing but the w1000x I found all that I LOVED about her amplified and refined in the 10ES2 ^^, and now the pb1 sounds like trash biggrin.gif [with very few songs]

Let's just say this ONE SNES album sounds like garbage on anything that is not TRANSPARENT. Any coloration outside of MAYBE some bass, will add grain and too much twang to it! Only the Dt 880 does the album justice... well the dt 880 on ANYTHING and the W1000x on the NFB 10ES2. So again, yea I need a new amp and NOT a warm one <3 Need a cleaner one.

Like the Meeir COrda Audio Step Dance? Nothing like 15 hour battery life on a 9volt ;D and you can bet I'ma get them DUracells

Dude, you're crazy xP

Either way, I need a new amp. After hearing my w1000x out of the NFB 10es2 for a third time and LOVING it that third time my current poartable set up is clearly lacking q.q

The choice I have now is Buy a D5k or buy a New amp...

Hiya all you W1000x officianados. I am really keen on getting these but I do love my HE400s and contemplating an upgrade to the HE500 too, just wondered if any of you had had both and what your thoughts were, cheers, Lee

I had the HE-6 and thought the 900X was very good in direct comparison, for the price.

The W1000X is en route and once it arrives, I'll be able to put that into perspective as well :]

Ohoho I did have both :D and I love my W1000x and I just Sold my HE 400

For me the HE 400 was not as balanced, a friend of mine also mentioned she felt the HE 400 was not as natural as the W1000x, so that said. While I very much enjoyed the HE 400 for anything EDM. I ended up keeping my w1000x simply because imo it was a more balanced sounding headphone! NON the less the HE 400 is a great compliment for the W1000x. They have a different sound imo, the HE 400 was... had better depth and a more open sound, it [imo] lacked the intmacy of the W1000x, I really liked the HE 400 with Movies as well [something the w1000x isn't terrible at though] Non the less I used my HE 400 mainly for Techno, Dub Step, Drum n Bass ect... ect... where as the I used the W1000x for pretty much everything else.

I'm curious about the purrin mod. Can I perform it with electrical tape? In mod thread, people were using blue tack.

The whole mod is to add weight to the cup and damping to the driver, electrical tape will not suffice. Dynamat is the best option, blu tac may work, but I would follow the mod the way many on here have done it for optimum success.

Stacking it I meant.

How exactly is the mod beneficial for the SQ?

Hi all, I just started listening my new w1000x. How long burn in is recommended for these? Out of the box sound is boring. I'f this is how these are supposed to sound I don't understand how anyone could call these fun headphones. There is nothing wrong in particular...I just don't enjoy these. I bought these to be alternatives for jvc ha-dx1000. Something with more upper end and less bass. For that they fit the bill. Anyhow...could burn in make a big difference or do I need a warmer, perhaps a tube amp? I plan on trying few lower end amps before making final leap to my (hopefully) end game amp. Thinking about trying atleast magni/vali/little dot mkIII before making a final decision between woo audio wa2, la figaro 339 and little dot mkvIII se. What do you guys think about those amps with w1000x? Mainly I'm choosing a amp for T1 but it would definately be a bonus if amp was a good match with lower impedance ath and jvc as well. At this point I'm guessing I end up with ld mkvIIIse+magni(for lower impedance headphones and in case I get orthos along the way)+gungnir.

Quick impressions after couple of hours listening.

- Soundstage is impressive, perhaps bigger than on dx1000. I haven't compared side by side. But if my memory serves me right dx1000 has better imaging and everything is placed more "correctly" in the enviroment.

- It's a cliche but these do sound and feel very open. Recommendable headphone for someone who usually feels claustrophobic wearing closed headphones.

- Everything is surprisingly balanced, I expected more V shape sound

- Really liking the bass. Firm, impactfull and zero leakage over mids

- Vocals get shouty at times

- Definately more highs than on dx1000, nothing special. Lately I've been listening only T1 so my ears might be spoiled. My mind expects similar airy presentation that I'm used to lately.

- Pads are indeed horrible. Sweaty, thin and provide bad isolation. If I wasn't aware of this issue beforehand I propably would have been so pissed that I had sent these back immediately. Unforgivable lousy quality for headphone of this price.

As you can see from my impressions I think these are good headphones...But something is missing for me to truly enjoy these :(

EDIT: It might just be that I expected way too much. If I had budget only of 399usd I would propably be content with these. Considering dx1000 is double the price and open T1 three times as much these are very very good. If I had gone say hd600->w1000x route instead of T1->w1000x I had been overwhelmed by the quality of ath. I understand that i'f I were looking closed back equavalent for T1 it would be something very expensive, perhaps th900 instead of ath. That doesn't explain the lack of fun factor though. Very mixed first impressions indeed. I just had hoped that these would have been as enjoyable as dx1000 but with different sound signature. If things don't improve with burn in or with another amp I can't really keep these. Even though these are propably a good deal for 399usd that's not exactly cheap either...

Thanks for the impression.

Now, I am really glad I ordered these :]

If they sound like you describe them, that'd be great, will see how I like the highs.

I too have been spoiled by higher end headphones [HE-6] in terms of sound presentation and highs extension, but the 900X are still really good. If the W1000X has better highs and tonal balance, I'd be really happy :]

A word of warning! If you find the STOCK sound to be... too balanced TO NOT MOD... I found the stock sound to be fun! With all the bass they had in stock. L3000 Pads andPurrins mod REALLY... balance them out imo! xD Just a fair word of warning :3

The J$Money make them very fun! Kinda like the A900x with a touch more refinement
