Post your impressions with the different pads too if you can.The 900x uses angled drivers like the w1000x. I'd like to know how the sound changes.

I will definitely try. Out of the box, they are quite sibilant so... I guess the HM5 pads should fit.
With the Hifiman... I've tried but I am not sure I'll be able to stretch the lip enough to fit over the fat lip's part...
I was not successful the first time and I really don't know if it is doable without modification.... It'd require some serious stretching, if at all possible.

The only pads of the bunch that I managed to get on were the velours.

But they are at their breaking point [one of the pads now has a little tear between the pad and the leatherette] so I wouldn't really recommend that.

Nor HM5 or Beyers fit, the thick piece of the earcup is just too thick for most of the pads.

The Hifiman pleather pads could probably fit too, but they'd also be stretched to their limits...

Conclusion - so far, no other pad fits on without hassles...  :/

Any other recommendations?

I don't mind the stock pads, they fit fine but I am always open to try alternatives.

Alpha pads if you can manage to get ahold of one.

Think that's almost too big + rather expensive :/

Guess I'll go with the stocks for now.

OT - How are the 1000X with a portable source [e.g. - clip+]?

Can anyone elaborate on the key differences between the 900X and 1000X and how they fare in terms of amping?

I am just curious :]

UPDATE - Went with the HiFiMAN velour pads in the end.

Takes some serious stretching but it is doable. One pad's leatherette is slightly damaged but no biggie as these are 10 bucks pads and it works.

Now the headphone fits much better and sound is a bit clearer IMO [a bit less bass]

Kinda like the Clip+ [Rockbox] --- 900X :]

EDIT - Pictures :]

ooh nice the HifiMan Velours sound perfect for the 900x! do the velours bump the mids a little as well

I'd assume so but only slightly if at all, it seems.

well the decrease in precieved bass should result in an increase of mids [percieved]

Yes, there is some.

But the comfort increase is significant too [for me]

I find the W1000X 900X very sibilant...
The overall signature is great but the sibilant 10 khz spike...
If it won't settle down, I am not sure I'll be able to get used to it... x/

How do the 900 and 1000 compare from a decent unamped source?
I could get an amp but the 900 is great without it too.
As far as I know though, the highs are very similar so probably ths 1000 would be just as sibilant to.me ;/

I think the 1000 and the 900 sound more different then alike. The w1000x is a bit bright but definitely not sibilant. The 900 had a strange upper midrange that was peeky, the W1000x is much smother and refined. The w1000x does well off of an unamped source, but they can handle some power and scale a bit with better amps. The W1000x is my favorite head phone with female vocals and classic rock, they have a sweet tone and are aggressive while retaining a good midrange. Just my two cents.
