For sale here is the one and only (don't quote me on that ) Beyer-Grado hybrid!

Expertly created by one of Head-Fi's favorite DIYers (nikongod), this unique headphone is essentially a pair of Grado SR125 drivers in a Beyerdynamic DT770 shell!

I'll let nikongod explain the rest, as the condition of these headphones has stayed exactly the same.

These are a pairing of beyer DT-770 shells and Grado SR-125 drivers. I made them in early 2007 (I think) and first showed them at either Thrice's mini meet at the college in MD or DaveDerek's ultra-mini-meet with the woo-5 prototype & a bunch of R10's.

They have some things going on that are worth mention.
First off, I wanted "more port" than these came with and in the interest of not stealing the design idea from headphile I drilled 1 in the apex of the headphone rather than around the outer rim. Bonus round! you can cover this port very easily with your fingers (or a piece of electrical tape) to modify the sound a little. port open=more bass, port covered=less bass.

I have always had the Manufaktuar leather pads on these, and enjoyed them quite well but they have started to come apart. They are serviceable, and should last at least a few months if they are treated reasonably well but I want to be upfront about this. Replacement pads are of course readily available. I tried a set of velour pads I had around and did not like them (it was ages ago, but the bass rolled away too much, with the leather pads they are nicely balanced across the board) but if you happen to have a set around your welcome to try for yourself.

The cable is 4 strands of 24ga silver plated copper in teflon with a shoelace as a cover from the plug to the left cup, and plain wire from the left cup to the right cup. This is a 100& recable from one end to the other including he headband.
The cable is a hair shorter than most at about 6ft.
Lastly, the cable is terminated with a neutrik 1/4" plug.

How do they sound?
They sound like something between the SR-125 and the DT-770. They have more bass than the SR-125, but flatter sounding mids & highs than the DT770 to me. I have run these with great satisfaction from amps ranging from little Morgan Jones Clones up to low power speaker amps. Whatever you have, just plug them in.

For the price, I will be selling these for $SOLD within the United States. Contact me for a shipping quote if you are international.

Thanks,
Leon

Just listened to this again. Wow, it really combines the best of Grado headphones and the best of Beyerdynamic headphones.
